(UPDATED OCTOBER 3 2027 - Wording on experimental TSR)

The preparations for the 2027 Edition of the Scandinavian Open are under way – and the first players have already stated their intention to participate. The tournament will again be held at Danhostel Ishøj, the location that served us so well since 2021.

The dates of the main event will be March 3 - March 7 2027. There will be friendly gaming Wednesday/Thursday March 3-March 4 leading up to the classic 5 round ASO main tournament starting Friday March 5 running through Sunday March 7th. The friendly gaming Wednesday and Thursday will take place at the same venue as the main tournament, so you can see it as a chance to warm up for the main tournament or just a chance to play some new opponents in a friendly atmosphere. We will again seek to run a mini-event for the "Green Squad".

2027 ASO CHANGES
We are introducing 2 significant changes to ASO in 2027
  • We are changing the schedule for the tournament Friday. will no longer offer a late start scenario. All games will be scheduled to start at 10.30 at the latest. This will allow us to get the 2nd round started earlier too.
  • We are introducing a new Tournament rule as an experiment in 2027 (final wording to be finalized before ASO).
    • ASO TSR 10 – EXPERIMENTAL – (TSR TO BE USED AT ASO 2027)
Vehicular MA, SA and Weapons on 5/8" counters repair on a dr of 1 or2 and is not disabled/eliminated on a 6, unless malfunctioned due to IF, Sustained Fire, or Random Gun destruction (A9.74, C11.6).
*The changes has been added to our website. These final details on these changes can still be adjusted before the tournament, but as concepts they will be implemented.

Contact Michael Hastrup-Leth (hastrupleth@gmail.com) or Bo Siemsen (bo.siemsen@gmail.com) for registration and a specific price for your stay.
Updates with regards to registered players, scenarios, PBS etc. will be made available on our website leading up to the tournament. Updates will also be announced in the Gamesquad forums in this thread.

Ordnance is defined (in the index) as "any weapon which MUST score a hit on a To Hit Table before rolling again on the IFT or To Kill Table to resolve that hit" (emphasis mine).
So, that definition will exclude any IFE capable weapon, as they ain't must do that? I am not sure that was the intent in this original definition but the word MUST makes it seem that an IFE capable weapon is not ordnance...
If you want IFE weapons to be included, as they may use the TH process, then would SW MGs and MTRs, etc. also be included?
Something for y'all to chew on!

We are introducing a new Tournament rule as an experiment in 2027 (final wording to be finalized before ASO).
  • ASO TSR 10 – EXPERIMENTAL – (TSR TO BE USED AT ASO 2027)
If an ordnance weapon malfunctions from a non-Intensive Fire fire shot that weapon receives a -1 DRM on repair dr
This would not cover an IFE weapon since they use Sustained Fire. It also would not cover an MG firing Sustained Fire but would cover an MG firing TH/TK (which I can't think of a way to do so it may not matter). This does not cover a radio/field phone.

The rule we are considering (and you can use).

-- All SW/Gun repair on a 1,2 unless they repair on a 1-3, in which case they repair on a 1-3. A repair dr of 6 does not Disable/Eliminate the SW/Gun, it simply does not repair.
-- A SW/Gun using IF/Sustained Fire has an X# equal to its original B# (-1- or -2; TBD). It does not have a new B#.

We are still deciding if it should be X10 or X11. An X10 would eliminate 6/36 (17% of the time) and might be too punitive. An X11 would eliminate 3/36 (8% of the time). When weapons don't get eliminated by a 6 on the repair dr, you need to find a way add downside to IF/Sustained Fire and (IMO) the X12 isn't enough to slow people down in my experience. You want that decision to cause angst and add tension.

Makes firing B11, SW less of an approach/ avoidance choice.

No, it makes IF/Sustaining them more thoughtful. The fact that they do not X when you roll a 6 on the repair dr AND they repair on a 1,2 means that using them isn't penalized. Abusing them though, can be quite punitive, BUT if they are destroyed it is because you, the player, made a choice and have to live with the consequences, not because the fickle dice decided today was not your day.

We will make sure to get the exact wording we want ready before ASO. Hence the note about "final details" can change.
I would rather not this thread turns into a lenghty rules discussion, but I would happilly run the wording past some of you guys who are smarter than me with regards to the rules, as it was my interpretation that decided that initial wording :).

I am not sure we can provide feedback without discussion. :)

Based on my guessing of intention that Panter´s MA, the only 88L mm gun or PSK/BAZ should not so easily be lost in a short tournament game you could use the wording from C2.1 which is: ordnance-capable weapon. Then you can add in ..not using IFE... after weapon to rubb it in.

Just my 2 cents...

I like it (at Arhem tournament I rolled two consecutive boxcars with my two Panthers, and had to fight 6 Cromwells).... but there could be also something for that Sniper killing half of your SMCs in turn one or that Boxcars +6 on a 9-2 NMC 😅😅😅
