Curtis was one of my ASL mentors. I was never so thrilled as when I finally beat him in grueling playing of J157-Rage Against the Machine (sure, it took a building collapsing on one of his tanks, but, hey, a win's a win!).

The roadtrips to the ASL Open in Chicago with Tom Yetter (Eagle4TY) and company were a hoot, lots of hilarious trash talk. I will miss him.

I played about a dozen games with Curtis and beat him only once by sheer dumb luck. He was a particularly skillful player. My dice were so bad that he would call them the "Jim Traver dice"
He sent me two carved wooden cowboys that I have on my bookshelf. They will always remind me of him. RIP.

I really don't have the words to convey my sorrow at this news. I just saw him a couple of weeks after my release to home with my stroke a couple of weeks ago and he was going to visit with a couple ASL friends in Michigan.

I met Curtis in January 2012 at a Twin Cities ASL meetup. We set up SP22 "Tod's Last Stand," and he proceeded to teach me all manner of lessons in ASL tactics as he beat me hands down in my second game ever.

This started a trend that that lasted most of the next decade. I don't think I won more than two or three times against him, but I learned something new in every game, and he was always a delightful opponent.

The ASL community is going to be a lesser place without Curtis' knowledge, kindness, generosity, and sportsmanship.

I'm glad to know that you are still with us, Tom. Knowing that you and Curtis were two peas in a pod, not seeing your immediate response here was worrisome. I hope you have a smooth recovery from your challenging circumstances.

Oh dear. What a blow.

We had our disagreements long time ago- but in the end of the day he was a good guy and solid ASLer. Rest in Peace, Peter.

A very sad news.
I remember playing online with him using chat, because we hadn't a vocal device, about 18 years ago.
We debated about faith, he a resolute Atheist and me a Christian: he liked that type of interactions.
He had a strong personality, but he was a good player (better than me! which is not difficult to be) and someone who contributed positively to our gaming community.

It is with great sadness that I have to inform you all that Peter Rogneholt, aka Commissar Piotr has passed away suddenly.
I am sure he would have wanted us to keep playing of course, but as we all know, from now on we will have to look up the rules a lot more, with him as the "living rulebook" gone forever.

Sad to read that. I met/ played Peter at my first Arnhem tournament. He was a strong character.

Peter and I played a few VASL/Skype games 15 years or so ago. He was a good opponent and the conversation was always lively. Since then I have enjoyed his internet commentary on a few different game systems.He will be missed.

He had only gotten back into the game because of the pandemic. I met him virtually back then during some online tournaments. He had a different personality. It took a lot to convince him of a rule interpretation if it was debatable to him. He generated a lot of Perry Sez for us.
