We (i.e., Melbourne ASL players) are currently organising the return of the ANZACon tournament in Melbourne for 2025.

Venue details (and thus costs) are yet to be confirmed, but the dates will be Friday 25 April to Sunday 27 April.

I will be TD for what will be a 5-round tournament.

If you are a likely attendee, and have not yet sent me an email confirming this, please drop me a line. Also, please feel free to pass this information on to anyone else that you think may be interested.

OK boys, preliminary feedback indicates that we have the numbers and are a go. (Always room for more!)

Site will be Reservoir 1st Scout Group Hall
73-77 Leamington St, Reservoir VIC 3073 (located in Edwardes Lake Park)

(This is the same site as the last couple of ANZACons from the last few years.)

Dates Friday 25 April – Sunday 27 April. There will be 5 rounds of competition. Round 1 will be one of Andy Rogers’ playtest specials, sure to surprise and delight. Rounds 2-5 will be organised by myself.

Cost per head for the weekend will be $50.

Trophy for the winner will be constructed and donated by Tim Reade (thanks Tim!).

We will as usual be looking to go to a group dinner at local restaurants on the Friday and Saturday night. More details on that to come.

Please don’t forget to drop me a line via email (if you haven’t already done so) if you are a “probable” attendee.

A baker’s dozen of us rocked up to the Reservoir Scout Hall over the ANZAC Day weekend for three days of ASL action! There was laughter, there was crying, hugs were exchanged, tattoos were made … well, perhaps I exaggerate, but I think a good time was had by all.

However, it had to end, and winners had to be chosen. Here are the tournament placings:

Alan Smee (1st)
Mark McGilchrist (2nd)
David Wallace
Tim Reade
Jonathan Woodger
Jamie Westlake *
Simon Spinetti
Andrew Rogers
Eric Topp
Shane Pask
David Jones *
Rob Newbury *

* Did not play all 5 rounds

Scenarios played were:
“Queen’s Landing” (playtest design by Andy)
SP23 “Assault on the Hotel Continental”
ESG119 “Mac Wants the Flamethrower”
RPT108 “Catching the Bear”
CH6 “Armored Probe”

Tremendous thanks again to Jamie for organising the hall hire, to Tim for making the terrific prizes, and to everyone who attended, particularly if interstate travel was involved!

Here are some pictures. First is a shot of the prizes made by Tim. Second and third are shots of the first round in action on Friday morning. Then there are shots of the prize-winners being handed their goodies by some bum who was hanging around.

Well done all!! It's always great to see our ASL comrades gunnin all across the globe. Special thanks to the TDs and organizers. These events, great or small, are quite special to me.

Still have my Paddo Bears ASL Sydney ball cap. Wore it today as a matter of fact!
