...Absolutely nothing?

In reviewing the notes of the equipment for my next bout I see that my Finnish 75L AT Gun in addition to unlimited AP & HE sports HEAT 4. Further review reflects that against AFVs the AP penetrates 17, and the IFT equivalent of 75mm HE is 12 FP. Meanwhile the HEAT's penetration per C7.33 is only 13, and its HE equivalency per C8.31 is only 8 FP.

So that got me to pondering, "Why, or upon what target would I ever use HEAT?" What am I missing here?

HEAT To Kill numbers are not reduced by range. at range 55-66, the TK# is the same for HEAT and AP, at ranges greater than 66, HEAT is a better choice.
Point taken but, wow! I can say that I have absolutely never made a shot of anywhere near that range. How many boards on end would that be?

Sometimes the TH is a 4 and firing Heat first gives you two tries to roll a 4 or less ... and two chances to malf as well.
I KNEW someone was going to bring this up. This particular tactic is not in my repertoire.

<edit> And if I did try it, I already know how it would play out. "D@mnit! If I had fired an AP round instead of HEAT that hit would have had a chance to blow up your tank!"

Those ranges come up all the time in scenarios... :p
Yes but that wasn't part of the question. Lol although I totally agree. More of a thought question than something useful in most ASL.

Good question though.

Furthest kill I've managed was a 61 hexer with a tiger against a T34.
The longest shot I have ever been part of was a 73 hex shot from an 81mm against Tito in Operation Rosselsprung. Bob O'Connor spun one hexside, fired, missed, maintained ROF. Second shot is a 1,1 for the 30 -2. Keep in mind, eliminating Tito is an instant victory. Resulting effect is a K/#, Tito survives the wound and spends the rest of the game hiding in his cave. While he was on the .50 though, it was glorious.

I have never attempted a 66 hex range shot, even in large desert actions. Seems very unlikely I will ever shoot at anything more than 30 hexes away... but you never know, as comments here show me 60+ hex shots are possible, though unlikely to ever hit but you never know...

Have you yet sought out the rule for throwing 75mm AP rounds?
