EVE Online Omnia

EVE Online: Tryannis Trailer

Is EVE's planetary interaction really this cool? No.

CCP has released a new trailer for the upcoming Tyrannis expansion. Some might consider the video to be just a tad misleading as it shows some impressive fleet battles between capital ships fighting over plantetary resources. In truth "planetary interaction" is one of the few areas of EVE Online where players can't directly interfere with the operations of other players or destroy their assets (CCP says that may come in the future). It also bears mentioning that the actual in-game mechanics for planetary interaction are quite boring and about as far from what is shown in this video as possible.

Nevertheless, it's a cool video so enjoy it for what it is.

EVE Online Seeds Planetary Interaction Control Centers and New EVE Gate

More than 60,000 planets are open to planetary interactionMore than 60,000 planets are open to planetary interaction

EVE Online's new Planetary Interaction system (originally added as part of the Tyrannis expansion) is now fully operational as Command Centers have been seeded accross New Eden allowing players to interact and stake a claim to more than 60,000 planets in the EVE Online universe. At this point the system is fairly basic and does not allow players to destroy the assets of other players or directly interfere with planetary production, however, the CCP devs have promised the system will be enhanced and more robust features added once DUST 514 is completed.

In addition, EVE Gate v1.0.1 has been deployed which fixes numerous bugs and Javascript issues. Patch notes are available here.

EVE Online: Tyrannis Expansion Released

CCP, one of the world’s leading independent game developers, today launched EVE Online: Tyrannis, the 13th free expansion for PC Gamer’s 2010 MMO of the year, EVE Online. Tyrannis will usher in new levels of player control as the pilots of EVE have turned their attention to the celestial bodies around them, casting surface inhabitants into the shadows of their powerful ships and exploiting the planets for the materials and profits they need to fuel countless ambitions. EVE Gate, the new web frontend and social networking platform for EVE Online, is a leap forward in extending the universe outside of the client, allowing access to in-game mail and features and bringing the community closer than ever before.
