Silent Hunter 5 Available for Pre-Order

Today, Ubisoft announced that salty sea dogs can now place their pre-order for the next installment in the popular WWII submarine simulator franchise, Silent Hunter. The press release reads:

“Silent Hunter 5: Battle of the Atlantic hails the return of the number one submarine simulation. For the first time, the player will be able to play as a U-boat captain leading his crew from a first-person view in a true dynamic campaign. Operate against Allied shipping across the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea and participate in famous encounters with strong enemy warships.

The Gold Edition will be available for download only and will contain seven unique submarines and enemy ship skins. The Gold Edition will also include the Silent Hunter 5: Battle of the Atlantic Official Guide containing 110 pages of crew details, submarines, ships and weapons as a pdf on the build.”

Miner Wars Update

One of the games we at GameSquad are keenly following is a new sci-fi indie effort called Miner Wars. It is described as a “6DOF underground and space shooter played in a fully destructible environment” that will be “a combination of single player story game and MMO.” Sounds cool, especially when you realize that “6DOF” means “six degrees of freedom of movement”, i.e., Miners Wars will feature a realistic depiction of rigid body movement in space. Hey! You got your space physics in my peanut butter! When it arrives, Miner Wars should bring some fresh ideas to a genre that often is dominated by unrealistic ‘fighter planes in space’ clones.

Ubisoft has released some new screenshots from Silent Hunter V. If Ubisoft can keep the bugs under control, I will be playing this game quite a bit!

Red Pill Screenshots

The first screenshots from Warfare Sims.com’s forthcoming air/naval wargame Red Pill have been released. The shots depict a scenario where “the Soviets decide to intercept a spying RC-135 in the Baltic. The RC-135 is escorted by four German F-4Fs and four Danish F-16As, and is intercepted by eight MiG-23Ms and six Su-15TMs. The MiG-23Ms pave the way breaking through the snooper’s escort while a pair of Su-15TMs manages to get into range for an AA-3 missile salvo.”
