Death From Above Seen On Video

Not much to add to the official commentary from BI!   Just read and watch, soldier!

Award-winning independent development studio Bohemia Interactive has released two official in-game videos to demonstrate some of the unique new features in the company‘s upcoming standalone expansion pack, Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead. Due to launch on June 29th 2010, Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead will introduce a range of new features, from authentically-modelled thermal imaging to an all-new optics system, alongside three new world maps comprising the fictional Central-Asian state of Takistan.

X3 Updated to 2.6 with New Steam Achievements

Egosoft’s X3: Terran Conflict is a remarkable achievement.  Imagine a single player science fiction experience on par with CCP’s EvE Online, but add in a learning curve so steep that it could be considered hostile…that’s X3.

X3 packs a remarkable amount of content into one package.  It is a remarkably deep commerce simulator, a Wing Commander-like combat game, and a huge exploration game for those who want to boldly go where no one has gone before.  In short, if you can think about doing something in outer space, there usually is a way to accomplish it in X3.  I guess that is why the motto for X3 is “Trade, Fight, Build and Think” -  I assure you that  you will be doing a lot of all four!  So, if you are hankering to be a space pilot, but want to avoid all that MMO nonsense (ganking, gate camping, monthly fees, etc.), I strongly urge you to try X3: Terran Conflict.

X3: Terran Conflict

X³: Terran Conflict is a brand new, stand-alone game set in the universe of X³. It is the culmination of the X trilogy, with a grand finale that takes us all the way back to Earth's own solar system. Gamers can take on the roles of different characters in the X universe, or of a Terran military pilot, and experience a multitude of stories in the largest X universe ever featured - for X³: Terran Conflict will offer more missions than any other X game before. Meanwhile, X³: Terran Conflict will pose questions such as: How has Earth changed in all these years? And how will relations between Earth and its counterparts in the X universe develop?

ArmA 2: Operation Arrowhead Arrives in June

ArmA II is the only true mil-sim available today…well, at least for civilians.  Those gamers who have experienced nothing else besides the many light shooters with mil-sim pretensions (I’m looking at you, Modern Warfare 2) are often shocked – and then enraged – by ArmA’s unforgiving combat environment.  But for those of us who are sick and tired of being shot at by bunny hopping teens, ArmA II is a relief of deep, unforgiving proportions.

Not content to rest on its camouflaged laurels, Bohemia Interactive soon followed up the release of ArmA II with the announcement that a stand-alone expansion pack was in the works.  Entitled Operation Arrowhead, this addition to the ArmA franchise will take gamers from the lush lands of Chernarus to the more desert-like region of ‘Takistan’ – which should help improve framerates immensely.   Today, BI has announced the release date for Operation Arrowhead:

From the PR:

ArmA II: Operation Arrowhead

Operation Arrowhead is the stand-alone expansion to Bohemia Interactive's hardcore mil-sim, ArmA 2. Operation Arrowhead promises to deliver yet more of the highly authentic military simulation gameplay the series is famed for, while shifting the action to an all-new environment and adding key new features to Arma 2’s already vast palette.

Benchmarking Demo Available for Miner Wars

Stop teasing me, you've already made the sale!

Keen Software House has released a new benchmarking demo for their game called Miner Wars. The demo is a non-interactive version of the game and features 4 different in-game animation sequences. This demo is mainly released to show a bit of the technology that we are using for the game and also to stress test the HW of the players interested in acquiring Miner Wars. The demo comes with an auto-updating utility and will be further upgraded to the single-player beta state in the coming weeks. Currently the game is in its alpha stage. All the graphics and sound present in the demo are subject to change. Miner Wars will require an internet connection to be played.

Nuke Strike!

I admit it: when someone mentions a “nuclear strike” in a gaming context, it gets my attention…and fast (then again, I would imagine that any mention of a “nuclear strike” would get my attention fast).  I find it somewhat ironic that the most terrible class of weaponry ever invented is perhaps gaming’s greatest boon.  Is there a gamer out there that can resist the rush that comes with unleashing radioactive death upon an opponent’s head?  I doubt it.  I mean, isn’t that the reason behind the success of Introversion’s classic beer and pretzels wargame, DEFCON?

Project: Red Pill

Project: Red Pill (working title) is a comprehensive wargame of air & naval (and limited ground) military operations, covering scenarios of both total-war and low-intensity/other-than-war situations. The scale is primarily tactical/operational, although strategic-scale operations are also possible.

Current status:

The Red Pill is currently under intense development. Internal beta-testing has already commenced and at least one public beta will follow.
