Black Prophecy Wins “Best of” Award at Gamescom

in

One of the highlights of gamescom, which took place in Cologne, Germany from August 18 - 22, was undoubtedly gamigo and Reakktor's space combat MMOG Black Prophecy. Not only could the crowds of visitors barely tear themselves away from the demo stations, press from all over Europe and North America were also impressed by its presentation.

Market-leading German publications GameStar and GamePro used the occasion of the world's largest games trade fair to select their favorites in seven categories. Black Prophecy and Mytheon, another gamigo game, were both nominated in the category "Best of Free-to-Play". In the end, Black Prophecy took the prize and was awarded "Best of gamescom" in its category.

Gamestar and GamePro: "Games that are free to download are becoming increasingly popular. And anyone who's into exciting battles in space will have lots of fun playing Black Prophecy. The Hanover-based developers Reakktor Media plan to launch their science fiction adventure in 2010. It is the winner of the GameStar and GamePro "Best of gamescom" award in the category "Free-to-play Games"."

Jobs Offered Back to Realtime Worlds 3D Project Team

in

Administrators for leading video games company Realtime Worlds have announced that 23 members of the 60-strong Dundee team working on the company’s ambitious MyWorld 3D project who were all made redundant earlier this month have been re-employed.

Joint administrator Ken Pattullo, of business rescue and restructuring specialist Begbies Traynor said: “As a smaller entity MyWorld is attracting considerable interest from potential buyers and 23 members of the team who had been working on the project clearly add value to it as a standalone business, hence the fact we have been able to offer a limited number of those jobs back.”

‘Crackdown’ and ‘APB’ creator Realtime Worlds, which went into administration on Tuesday, announced the MyWorld “3D social gaming experience” last month, scheduled for launch in 2011. The team was, however, made redundant only days before Realtime Worlds went into administration.

Yesterday (Wedy) the administrators confirmed that while 53 jobs had been retained 157 employees had been made redundant, in addition to the 60 before administration. Trade creditors in the UK are owed in the region of £3 million.

EverQuest: House of Thule Coming in October

in

The seventeenth addition to Sony Online Entertainment epic adventure EverQuest House of Thule is on its way. Now in its unprecedented twelfth year, House of Thule brings immersive gameplay, captivating storytelling and exciting worlds to continue the EverQuest legacy, now set in a never-before-seen dreamland full of mystery and adventure. House of Thule offers an expansion rich in content and packed with game-changing features including a level cap increase and the addition of player housing, which new players, veterans and MMO fans will relish.

The adventure continues across Norrath where prominent figures are falling into dream-induced comas. The clerics and mystics of the land are powerless to wake their leaders from their unnatural sleep, evidence that something is deeply wrong in the world of dreams.

New Lord of the Rings Online Screenshots

in

I really need to get back to Lord of the Rings Online. I found it to be an enjoyable MMORPG set in the quintessential fantasy setting. What is more, Turbine has lived up to the high expectations of the “ringer” crowd by doing a pretty good job of releasing new content and community requests. Really, what more could you want? Well, ‘free to play’ I suppose…which arrives in the fall! This cheapskate can’t wait! Let’s raise a tankard of mead in Turbine’s honor!

Here’s some new screenshots showing off character creation and locked quests. Strangely, there were supposed to be ten, but I only found nine in the press release. I blame the Nazgul! (Nine? Get it? Nevermind....)

EVE Online: Tryannis Trailer

Is EVE's planetary interaction really this cool? No.

CCP has released a new trailer for the upcoming Tyrannis expansion. Some might consider the video to be just a tad misleading as it shows some impressive fleet battles between capital ships fighting over plantetary resources. In truth "planetary interaction" is one of the few areas of EVE Online where players can't directly interfere with the operations of other players or destroy their assets (CCP says that may come in the future). It also bears mentioning that the actual in-game mechanics for planetary interaction are quite boring and about as far from what is shown in this video as possible.

Nevertheless, it's a cool video so enjoy it for what it is.
