Napoleon: Total War – The Peninsular Campaign Available on Steam

SEGA today announced that Napoleon: Total War – The Peninsular Campaign is now available for PC exclusively via Steam. This expansion pack includes a brand new campaign map featuring 32 controllable regions divided amongst four different factions of which three are playable. In addition to France and Britain, Spain is also added as a playable faction exclusively on this campaign map.

Napoleon: Total War – The Peninsular Campaign is available for US$9.99. For a full list of features on The Peninsular Campaign, please visit www.totalwar.com.

It is 1811 and the war in the Spanish Peninsula has been raging for over two years with mixed fortunes and heavy casualties for both sides. Napoleon’s Armée d'Espagne, led by Marshal Masséna, has invaded Portugal once again, but thus far, the network of entrenchments has proved impossible for the French to successfully assail. Although forced back to the edges of their Peninsula by France and the traitors who helped them, Spain is not yet out of the fight. The Supreme Central Junta and its successor, the Supreme Regency, authorised the forming of local bands to fight guerrilla - the “little war” - against the invaders.

Do You Want Crusader Kings 2?

[I played the original and while it had some really good ideas, the game’s miserable UI made an already complex game nearly unplayable for me.  I do support a sequel…as long as it includes a new UI!]

After a year of intense petitioning on the Paradox forum for a sequel to the dynasty building, cult classic Crusader Kings, Paradox have launched a Facebook page summoning all gamers hoping for Crusader Kings 2 to unite and make their voices heard.

Currently at 1800+ members on Facebook and parallel petitions on the Paradox forums with 40,000+ views, the gauntlet has been thrown down.

The declaration is simple: When this page has 25,000 fans, Paradox will announce Crusader Kings 2.

Tantalizing Details Revealed about Sword of the Stars II

At GameSquad, we are science fiction fanatics.   Movies, books, games…it doesn’t matter, we love it all.

But especially the games.

4X games in particular give us the greatest light speed rush.  Whenever we hear about a new game that allows us to assume the throne of a galactic emperor, well…it is a thrill that makes us squeal like green Martian girls.  Okay maybe it’s just me squealing like a Martian girl, but that's besides the point.

Right now there is a trinity of superior 4X games to choose from:  Stardock’s classic Galactic Civilizations II, Ironclad’s Sins of a Solar Empire, and Kerberos Studios’ Sword of the Stars.   All three have succeeded in developing a cult-like following by offering a unique take on interstellar mayhem.  For example, GalCiv II offers a superior planetary development model, while SotS has a wonderful tech tree.  And, of course, Sins is set in a unique RTS environment.

New Trailer for Commander: Conquest of the Americas

Newsflash: the world can be unfair. Okay, most of us knew that already, but it still rankles my sensibilities, especially when it applies to the world of gaming. Case in point:

When Creative Assembly’s Empire: Total War sailed into port, a lot of people were wowed by its snazzy new naval battle engine…and rightly so. At long last, fans of the TW series could see naval battles brought to life in the same stunning detail that they had grown accustomed to seeing during land battles. Unfortunately, I believe that was the only truly worthwhile aspect of E:TW and even then, it was far from perfect.

While E:TW was basking in the limelight, another game featuring tall ships and cannonballs also arrived on the scene. It was Nitro Games’ East India Company. Like Empire, East India Company had a very immersive naval battle component, one I believe actually surpassed Empire in that it gave the player the ability to command a vessel from a first person perspective. Let me assure you that while it is fun to command naval vessels from the third person, it is nothing to actually standing on a pitching deck and watching cannonballs fly over your head and tear into your sails!

Commander: Conquest of the Americas

Scheduled for release on July 30, 2010, Commander: Conquest of the Americas features elements from both trading and strategy games. Choosing from 7 different European factions, take charge of a European power aiming to conquer the New World. Found new colonies and manage their resources, production, military, and much more as they develop into a full blown empire. Choose to command ships in RTS fashion or take direct control as your fleet engages ships of an enemy nation or blood thirsty pirates at a highly detailed tactical level.

Bohemia Interactive Deploys Army of Takistan for ArmA 2

Bohemia Interactive has released a video introducing the Army of Takistan, the second faction in the forthcoming standalone expansion pack, Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead.

According to the press release, the Takistani Army is equipped with a mixture of Cold-War-era equipment of both Eastern and Western bloc origin, supplied during the interregnum of 1988-91. Local or supreme warlords command and control military manpower across local tribal forces. Several main factions control military vehicles and aircraft either stolen from or supplied by the Soviets; however, their numbers and capabilities are limited.

"Armed with FN FALs, AKS-74s rifles, PKMs and other personal weapons, soldiers usually wear distinct steel helmets and khaki or lizard-patterned uniforms; special military police forces also wear black turbans. The Takistan army chiefly employs Soviet Cold-War era vehicles: T-34, T-55 and T-72 tanks, BRDM-2 personnel carriers, UAZ cars and V3S trucks. Military vehicles are painted in irregular amorphous-shaped fields of desert yellow and dark green."

Armada 2526

Armada 2526 continues the great tradition of space opera games. You guide your race from its first interstellar journeys, until it becomes a mighty galactic empire. Along the way, you'll explore the galaxy, conduct research, diplomacy and trade, found new colonies, maneuver mighty star fleets, and fight epic battles. Although the game is complex, and the possible strategies endless, powerful help and advisor features help you get up to speed quickly.
