EVE Online is the best MMO at the moment
I would have to say EVE currently is the best MMO that I have tried so far. Lord of the Rings Online has possibilities and so does the upcoming Star Trek MMO. Age of Conan was okay, but it got repetitive pretty quickly.
I've only tried LOTRO, and
I've only tried LOTRO, and was leery of getting sucked in and finding I spent way too much time with it. It probably does take too much of my time but I am managing it ok. I obviously can't compare it to anything, but what I don't like is that it doesn't compare well to itself. For every step forward it takes with new content releases, it takes a step backwards by "dumbing down" to please users who don't like to have to "work" for in-game rewards. Travel is made quicker and less expensive, resource gathering is made swifter and now foolproof by labeling everything, and a quest tracker does everything but point the way with neon signs - even though all the quests are already laid out with precision on a half dozen websites set up for that specific purpose. Kind of takes away from the point of it all if you don't need to really "lift a finger" to achieve anything.
