EA also announced the first pre-order incentives for Command & Conquer 4 Tiberian Twilight.   • Nintendo Tops Hardware Sales Charts

    Nintendo's Wii and Nintendo DS systems claimed the top hardware sales positions for October, making them well-positioned to become one of the must-have holiday gifts for the fourth consecutive year. U.S. shoppers snapped up nearly 507,000 Wii systems in October, bringing lifetime sales to more than 22 million, according to the independent NPD Group, which tracks video game sales in the United States. Wii sales spiked more than 9.5 percent over September, a remarkable result, considering that September was a five-week reporting month for NPD, while October included just four weeks. Consumers were attracted by top software like Wii Sports Resort and Wii Fit Plus, as well as the system's new suggested retail price of $199.99.

     
  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Shatters Opening Day Sales Records

    Activision announced today that Infinity Ward's much-anticipated Call of Duty:Modern Warfare 2 has become the biggest launch in history across all forms of entertainment with estimated sell-through sales of $310 million in North America and the United Kingdom alone in the first 24 hours, according to internal Activision estimates.

    Modern Warfare 2 was released on Tuesday, November 10th, to worldwide fanfare across the globe, including over 10,000 retail outlets in the U.S. alone which held midnight openings to meet consumer demand. In its first day, the blockbuster title sold through approximately 4.7 million copies in just North America and the United Kingdom, according to internal Activision estimates.

     
  • GamersGate Adds Runic Games to Online Catalog

    GamersGate, the online retailer with the largest selection of games available for digital download on the web, today confirmed that it has partnered with Runic Games to distribute titles worldwide. The partnership kicked off with the recent release of Torchlight, Runic’s recently released action-RPG.

    “It is a top priority for us to identify key retail opportunities as a growing publisher,” said the CEO of Runic Games, Max Schaefer. “GamersGate offers a quick and easy solution to purchase games and we’re happy to be on board.”

    “Torchlight is a fantastic game and it’s an excellent addition to the catalog,” added Theodore Bergquist, CEO of GamersGate. “We’re constantly looking for great publisher partners and Runic definitely falls into that category.”

     
  • Age of Conan Re-Evalutation Campaign Repeated

    Funcom has decided to repeat the successful re-evaluation campaign that went live earlier this year for the best-selling massively multiplayer online role-playing game ‘Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures’. Previously active players are encouraged to come back to the game and play free of charge for two entire weeks. As an additional incentive for players to come back and play for free, they will also receive a double experience boost throughout their free period. Those who decide to continue playing beyond their free period can also look forward to fantastic rewards such as guaranteed access to the beta test for The Secret World, a free copy of the expansion and more.

     
  • Activision-Blizzard Announces Call of Duty Endowment

    The Washington Post is reporting that gaming giant Activision-Blizard is setting up a Call of Duty Endowment to “support other groups that assist veterans with their careers.”  Chief executive Bobby Kotick remarked:

    "The joblessness rate that [veterans] should have should be far less than the national average, not more.  How do you expect people to actually join the military if when they leave the military they can't integrate back into the free market they're supposed to be protecting?"

  • Star Trek Online to Ship Early Next Year

    Atari and Cryptic Studios announced today the highly anticipated Star Trek Online for PC is set to release on February 2, 2010 in North America and February 5, 2010 across Europe and Australia. This first-of-a-kind massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) will offer space and ground gameplay to fans and players.

    "Star Trek Online is poised to become the ultimate Star Trek gaming experience," said Jim Wilson, CEO of Atari, Inc. "Throughout the last four decades, Star Trek has been a mainstay in pop culture, influencing legions of fans through television, film, and more. Star Trek Online opens a whole new chapter and expands upon this incredible universe in 2010."

     
  • Dante’s Inferno Demo Slated for December

    Visceral Games today announced a demo for Dante’s Inferno. Coming this December, the ‘Gates of Hell’ demo includes the entire opening level and gives gamers a taste of Visceral Games’ blockbuster adaptation of Dante Alighieri’s epic poem, The Divine Comedy.

     
  • New Survival Mode for Star Trek D-A-C

    Paramount Digital Entertainment, Bad Robot Interactive, CBS and Naked Sky Entertainment revealed more details today for the all-new Survival Mode for Star Trek: D-A-C and the updates to existing Conquest Mode and Assault Mode. Star Trek: D-A-C is coming to PlayStationNetwork and PCs via Valve’s Steam distribution service on November 12. All new content will also be available for Xbox LIVE Arcade for Microsoft’s Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system. Star Trek: D-A-C is a fast-paced, top-down arcade space shooter inspired by the blockbuster motion picture, “Star Trek,” which will be available on Blu-ray and DVD on November 17.

  • Open Beta Announced for Warrior Epic: Battlegrounds

    True Games today announced that it has launched an open beta test for Warrior Epic: Battlegrounds, the game’s first expansion with a vast amount of all- new content (www.warriorepic.com). The expansion includes brand new PVP gameplay, an all-new HUB City, a New Region (Trogken Swamps), dozens of new items and much more.

    This new expansion marks the first project for True Games Interactive’s new development studio located in Beijing, China. The second new studio that True Games has opened this year, the Beijing studio has been working on the latest Warrior Epic content, while the Austin, Texas studio is developing a new IP for the publisher. The new Beijing studio will continue to work on future updates of Warrior Epic and will also be looking for new content to develop.

    BioWare has released a new developer diary that describes how the game's combat system was designed.  Pay special attention to the 'final thoughts' segement where DA:O is described as BioWare's game for their "grown up"  audience - interesting choice of words.  Overall, the vid makes for some interesting viewing!
