In related post-apocalyptic news, a teaser has been released for the next Fallout title: Fallout: New Vegas. Hmm...I wonder if it will include ghoulified dancing girls and radioactive one-armed bandits? Guess we'll have to wait and see. In the meantime, here is the teaser:

Not the town – Google pointed it out to me on a map with a few clicks – but the game, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat. You see, GSC Game World’s latest entry to the cult-like franchise was released last Tuesday to much excitement and more than a few good review scores. Unfortunately, with the exception of a few copies scattered about like artifacts, the game seems to be missing in action. It cannot be located on any of the popular digital distributors, such as Steam or Direct2Drive, nor are copies turning up in the usual retail outlets (albeit, Target seems to have somehow scored the biggest load so far - go figure).

I find it ironic that a game that puts the player in the occupation of a post-apocalyptic scavenger has, in reality, put S.T.A.L.K.E.R. fans in the same occupation! It is more than a little amusing to peruse the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. forums and find players gathered around the virtual campfire talking about their often failed but occasionally successful attempts to...

Why aren’t there more Westerns when it comes to gaming?  It is a somewhat startling oversight when you consider that “shooters” are all the rage these days.  Oh sure, I guess you could argue that there just weren’t enough variety of weapons back in the bad ol’ days to make such a game interesting, but heck, we’re talking gaming here!  It wouldn’t be the first time that a developer took liberty with the facts.  Let’s face it:  the Old West is iconic and as fascinating to people the world over as is Europe’s medieval period.  I just don’t get it.

Sword of the Stars was one of those quirky games that took a few expansions to find its feet, but once it did, the game shined as one of the best 4X strategy games to grace the PC.  It wasn’t just that it combined gameplay similar to the popular Total War series (i.e., turn-based strategy with real time battles), but also because it was clearly crafted by people who loved science fiction as much as they did gaming.  If you haven’t tried Sword of the Stars, I urge you to put on your space helmet and give it a try!  Or you could also read my review here.  Or my four part AAR here.  (Can you tell I really like this game?)

Not surprisingly, Kerberos Studios has now announced a sequel!

Introversion has announced the release date for Darwinia+ on Xbox Live Arcade. The game will be launched through XBLA on Wednesday 10th February 2010 and will cost 1200 points.

“It’s been a long battle with Microsoft and their particularly high standards; in the end we are really thankful for their advice and help in completing this long and challenging game project. We have come to think of Darwinia+ as the Director's Cut as it has surpassed our expectations of what we were originally looking to create and now looks and feels smoother than ever. As Darwinia+ is our first adventure onto a games console this also marks an extra special celebration for Introversion.

We would also like to take this opportunity to give a special thank-you to everyone, especially the press and the fans for their continued support for Introversion, and as ever we look forward to reading some really interesting reviews and user comments. Without you guys Introversion...
