The Year of the French…just shown on TV, about General Humbert’s landing in Ireland to help us out in 1798.

Some Mothers Son,… about the Hunger Strikers in the North.

Michael Collins, about the Irish Terr… sorry Guerrilla leader who fought the British.

The Blue Max, forgotten WWI film about German Air Aces.

Waterloo, Rod Steiger as the man himself. Also my cousins Uncle (Dan O’Herlihy) plays Marshal Ney.

Dr. Zhivago…never run after Blondes on Trams, bad for the heart you see.

War and Peace. Audrey Hepburn plays Natasha. Great book too.

Das Boot….8 hour version….the best ever.

Saving Private Ryan….for the action sequences…..anyway Ryan’s a good Irish name!

Spartacus…always fight back brothers!

The Charge of the Light Brigade….Captain Nolan points in the wrong direction and sends the 600 to their doom…another good Irish name!

Glory….Battery Wagner must be taken Boys.

Lawrence of Arabia, Irish born Peter O’Toole plays the flawed hero.

Zulu, ….Welsh troops defend Rorkes Drift against African fanatics….the power of the Martini-Henry!

Paths Of Glory…they should have shown this in 1914!

Plenty of other goods pictures out there too.

PS This is more than 10 so you'll have to pick 10 out of this lot.

Rather than listing 10, I'll list the war movies who have moved me the most:

WWII:

-The Dirty Dozen
-A Bridge Too Far
-Schindler's List

Vietnam:

-Full Metal Jacket
-We Were Soldiers

Modern:

-Black Hawk Down

On top of that, the best war scene I have ever watched is the first 30 minutes of Saving Private Ryan. I was blown away and it made me forever admirative of the brave soldiers who landed into such hell.

Yes indeed; I do not know of any other war movie filmed in such a way or even approaching the effect produced by this first half-hour. Purely and simply rivets you to your armchair and leaves you stunned.

I like all these (but not necessarily agree upon the order :p )
... however... Braveheart ... a war movie? I thought it was more like a drama... :bandit:

I don’t know if it can be considered as a war movie, but I like Hogan’s Heroes too, if it is the exact title, with Colonel Klink, Schultze…
