A question in regards to a Wounded SMC. Of course they have
3MFs and 0 PPs as per A17.2. But is the wounded SMC (in this case
a hero) still able to Recover (A4.44) a SW (in this case a 1PP FT)?
I seem to remember a Q&A that a wounded SMC cannot portage
any PPs (so couldn't move with the FT), but don't see anything
preventing Recovery.

I'm almost certain they can. Moving is another story, but staying put and firing is a valid option.

Reepicheep is correct, he can recover the SW.

Note that the rules makes a distinction between "possession (A4.43)" and "portaging (A4.42)".

Posession is the act of controlling the the SW/Gun by having it ontop of the unit, and there is no limit to the number of SW/Gun on unit can possess. So a wounded SMC can recover and possess 5 HMG if you want it to.

Portage is the act of expending MF while possessing the SW/Gun. Its here that a SMC is restricted to 0 PP. Thus a wounded SMC can for instance move into a OG hex (1 MF), recover a HMG (1 MF) for a total of 2 MF. The HMG is then possessed, but not portaged, since the SMC hasn't spent any MF after the recovery.

It cannot expend its last MF though, for if it does so, the HMG will be considered portaged, and will then reduce the SMC's MF to -3.

hi!

OK I am not certain I understand. I asked this in another post regarding carrying a BAZ while wounded.

Just to make certain I understand, a wounded SMC has 3 MF and 0 PP.

So, if he is carrying a BAZ (FT, LMG) which cost 1 pp, he now has only 2 MF?

Thanks!

Peace

Roger

A 4.42 says a SMC may not carry more than 2PP.
A BAZ is 1PP. So, even if the IPC of a wounded SMC is reduced to 0, he can carry a BAZ, but this will reduce his MF to two...
A 17.2 says that a wounded SMC that does not carry a SW may be carried by a Good Order MMC (at the cost of 5PP): this understates that a SMC may otherwise carry a SW, within the restrictions of the rules...
It even seems he could carry 2 PP (two BAZ!) thus reducing his MF to 1...

wounded SMC portage capability

Hello:

There was a change between the 1st & 2nd edition of the ASLRB as to a wounded SMC & portage. Rule A17.2 in the *FIRST* edition of the ASLRB reads:

"MOVEMENT: a wounded man is reduced to three MF ..., has
no IPC, ..."

And Rule A17.2 in the *SECOND* edition of the ASLRB reads:

"MOVEMENT: A wounded man is reduced to three MF ..., has an
IPC of zero, ..."

So, if the two players are using the first edition of the ASLRB the wounded SMC would *NOT* be able to portage any SW, however if using the second edition of the ASLRB it *could*. A further clarification exists in the ASL annual '93b page 43 (in the DEBRIEFING):

"A17.2 Even though a wounded SMC 'has no IPC', may he
portage a SW?"
A. Yes, subtracting that SW's PP value from his three-MF
allotment. (In A17.2, change 'no IPC' to 'an IPC of
zero'.) However, a wounded SMC may not carry >2pp (A4.42),
nor may he portage any SW while he is being 'carried' by a
MMC. "

So there it is, first edition ASLRB wounded SMC has no IPC, second edition ASLRB has zero IPC. Take care,
rk
