Instead of getting into a similar thread on this I started a new one. Situation is the end turn of J159, Tropic Lightning, designed by the Bongiovannis. Lots of fun things going on, maybe material for a future story, but it boils down to the CC phase of the last American turn. Americans need to get all stone buildings from Japanese defenders, and after much brouhaha they find themselves with three remaining stone buildings held by the following Imperial forces:
1- An immobile Japanese tank.
2- A striped crew manning a 45L gun and with a Stuart in bypass.
3- A first line full squad.
The American forces are overwhelming. Many squads (3 fresh and 2 CX plus a couple of HS) and a Mr 9-2 surround building 1. A full squad and an 8-0 are ready to jump into the measly striped crew. And a full squad plus a 9-1 are about to advance into the building held by the full squad.
Peanuts right? Not so sure, because of course the Japanese first line full squad is a daunting enemy. But as it happens, after easily easily passing their PAATC three fresh Ami squads and the 9-2 jump into the immobile tank, ambush it of course. What is the CCV? a 6, with a down 4. But Mr 9-2 gacks it and rolls 5,6. The two other clutzy squads mess it up as well and are unable to make the CCV5 down 2. What are the effing odds of the three failing!
Game over already but why not see how the rest follows. The 8-0 and full squad get ambushed by the striped crew. Who cares right? I mean at 1-8 it needs snakes to CR. Well, there is the small matter of the down 2 for ambush and HtH. And so it goes and the crew rolls 1,2 wiping out squad and leader.
Finally, the hardy 9-1 and squad actually manage to ambush the Japanese first liner, and lo and behold whack it to heaven in nomal non-HtH combat.
What a game!
