Hi-
posting from Starbucks........again!

Anyway, who among us plays D&D? I play twice a week with perhaps one game of ASL once per month.

I play D&D 3.5 but I'm sure Ron play's OD&D, you know the one with the small booklets.

Also, whats your favorite world to play in? And yes Ron, I know it must be Greyhawk for you. But I prefer Frogotten Realms, an Awesome world indeed.

Anyway, do tell.

Me my dad, his friends, and my friends, get together often to play 2nd AD&D, Call of Cthulu, D20 Weird Wars, Boothill, and others. In fact in about 2 hours we will be playing a large game in my dad's campaign universe at my b-day "party". He takes the paragraphs that say GMs/DMs are allowed to modify rules, etc to heart. I love my Roman Legionnaire type character though :D Then I'll be running a Weird Wars (actually a straight forward WWII) and I'll be running my buddies through Carentan.

I played all thru grade school, highschool and college. Was a DM for around7-8 yrs. Played the original and then 2nd Ed. AD&D. The Greyhawk world was the only campaign out then so I just made my own. Think I still have the binder it was in somewhere in the "Archives". Now I still play on the computer but not table top anymore. Still have all my 2nd Ed. books on the shelf though.

Played AD&D late in high school. Played probably too much in college. Did not play for about 5 years until 95-96 and only played for a few months. Finally played 2nd Ed about 2 years ago for a few months. Haven't played since.

Confession

I confess, my ex-wife made me play. She has all first edition stuff which is probably worth more than her house.

Anyway, I still do the RPG thing (since 1980)....

D20 is an improvement over 1st and 2nd edition, but, its still got things I do not like.

I prefer CoC, Elric!, 7th Sea and Lo5R.

Peace

Roleplayers, ahhhhh !!

C'mon you roleplayers, straighten up and fly right, you have cardboard counters and VASL now. There is no excuse to be talking about Hit Points when you should be talking about TO HIT.

I play D&D 3.0 in the Kalamar setting mainly. Then I also play regularly Call of Cthulu (not the d20 version), Vampire (the new WoD version) and Conan (despite the flawed manual).

I started playing when I went to the States, some fifteen years ago. My room mate invited me once to a game and I've been playing ever since. For some reason I couldn't find anyone around who played SL or PB/PL on those days.

Started way back when in the early 80's with 1st ed AD&D. Never got into the 2nd ed, but did get sucked in by the 3rd.

We (my wife, myself and another couple) play every other Saturday. We're currently playing in an ad hoc d20 Future of my own creation in which I'm letting the players use characters from ANY d20 book we may have on hand.

It's been a wild ride so far! :D

It has so many spelling mistakes that is almost unreadable. I understand there is a new "Atlantean" version that fixes most of the errors and even adds some new bits to the text but I didn't buy it. It is a fairly low level magic setting and combat works a bit differently than the standard D20, just a bit. In fact Conan isn't D20 but OGL which means you don't use the D&D books at all, there is no elves or dwarven for example but Cimmerians, Hyborians, Picts...

I'm a fan of Conan so it was a must buy for me, and I like the low magic, no humanoids setting. Still the sloppiness of the first version has prevented me from buying the other books (see link).

I'm spending my money in ASL instead. Somehow there seems to be always something ASL related to spend my money on. And if there isn't, I can always go to CH to get something with squads and leaders on it.

Is there anyone who played The Fantasy Trip (metagaming) By Steve Jackson?
This was in 80's my first and unattainable love.
Still today I have a TFT campaign running.
I made a lot of change and corrections in the rules, but the system is very good.

BTW I agree this discussion is a bit OT

did quite of bit of D&D first year of college back in the early 80's, then I discovered Twilight 2000 and I never looked back. I still recall this adventure our squad had touring west from Poland in a Supersize Winnebago trying to make our way back to the NATO lines. Sort of reminds of Bill Murray and John Candy in "Stripes" ;)

My friend says there is a system out called Hacketeer (or something like that) which is more like old AD&D. He says the covers of the books take the old AD&D covers but have the heroes getting smashed and hacked by the monsters this time.

Forgot about that one! We played Twilight 2000 quite a bit during college. Seems like I spent way more time playing pool, drinking, watching porn (for the articles :p ), playing video games, and playing RPGs more than studying. :whist:

I started with playing D & D (the one without the A) in the 80's. I played an elf, whose name I still remember(!!!)
Some time later some of us also joined a AD & D game based on the dragonlance saga(I played Caramon and an Elf(forgot his name: he was sort of a support cast type)) It was a bit difficult for us to play as the setting and hero's were prefabed, giving you the feeling you were forced down certain roads. I like the elf more than the Caramon guy as playing him gave me more liberty to play it my own way.
Then I was invited to be the evil commander in a battle in an other role play game, called Powers and Perils. I stuck with with this group and dropped the AD & D, later on also played some years warhammer with another group. I stopped playing two years ago.
A year ago I tried to start a AD & D 3 edition campaign but we found it kind of suffocation: most players were used to GURPS and Powers and Perils were you have more of a free hand. Lacking time etc we dropped it after 3 sessions.
I also dabble in some other rpg's the best I liked was called pendragon.

Oh i don't play ASL.... :D

WOW!! Twilight 2000. 1st edition was the best. I can't remember how many times I was able to quickly calculate the penetration on vehicle shots, but could not understand a bit of calculus during the college years. 2nd edition was not bad, we ended up doing a "Red Dawn" campaign that took place on our campus. We actually built ourselves with current skills, for example we went to the archery range to "test" our skill level.
