Darkest Hour is top-notch American Metalcore. The last album, "Hidden Hands of a Sadist Nation" was recorded in Gothenberg, Sweden.

I've been into a lot of metalcore lately.

If you dig Darkest Hour, be sure to check out these guys, too:

Lamb of God
Martyr A.D.
Shadows Fall
Killswitch Engage

I especially recommend Lamb of God's most recent album: "As The Palaces Burn" and the song "11th Hour" in particular.

Lamb of God is pretty good. I have some of their songs on mp3. Killswitch Engage is also really good. Nice bands to bang your head to and start thrashing around to.

Don't feel clueless. These are bands you don't see on regular MTV or VH1. They are fairly underground although they are well known in Extreme Heavy Metal circles. They are all on large independant labels and they tour worldwide. I think they are all americans, too.

You will see videos by these bands occasionaly on headbanger's ball on mtv, i've heard. I don't watch the mtv.

Lamb of God isn't going to be winning any grammys soon, either.

I have both the newer albums by KSE and Shadows Fall. I like them both. I have 4 or 5 Cradle discs, too. I like them....as I'm sure everybody says- Dani's voice can become irritating but i like the way the songs are written and i like the smoothed-out, more goth sound they bring to black metal. Don't misunderstand though, I like my black metal to be just as brutal, tr00, kvlt, gr1m and n3cr0 as the next guy.

You should check out Immortal.

My favorite C of F songs are Black Metal and The Black Goddess Arises II. I like "Black Metal" because the way he sings, I don't think it's irritating, I think it's awesome. And I like "The Black Goddess Arise II" because I like classical along with metal. And whenever they have him sing, the violin and the female, uh I'm going to say soprano, it just sounds really awesome.

Old guys

I saw that line on no guitar solos any more, and it made me think about Leslie West (Mountain).

What a great guitarist.

Got to see him live (and larger than life) with Felix Pappalardi (RIP) and Mountain when I was in college.

German Metal

A great German metal band (they sing in English) is GRAVE DIGGER. They do fantastic theme albums. The one I have with me is TUNES OF WAR -- it's the history of Scotland in Heavy Metal. They also have one out on the Knights Templar and one on King Arthur. Makes me glad to be a reenactor, 'cuz after about :30 of listening to them, I've got to hit someone with an axe!
:horse:
(Hey, where is the "hit the guy with the axe" smile?)

So you wanna be a gunslinger.

Get you a rig. An amp. A guitar. Read the guitar mags. Find some songs transcribed in tablature that you know. Work on your licks, and your tricks. Bend. Slide. Hammer on. Pull off.
