Purist, that is why I'd like to see the TCS do more Pacific Theater stuff. The Japanese seemed, at first glance, to have this doctrine of staying put late in the war. In truth, as late as Tinian, the Japanese were launching attacks. In fact, Tinian was a fluid fight throughout the campaign. They counterattacked on Saipan (at Garapan) and at Peleliu (on the first night - with tanks!). During the mid-war period there was also Biak, offering both sides the opportunity to attack and defend.
