finally someone with good taste around here

Mmmmh... you're probably right

Guess you dreams always end.
They don't rise up, just descend,
But I don't care anymore,
I've lost the will to want more.
I'm not afraid not at all,
I watch them all as they fall,
But I remember when we were young.

Richard Thompson

Jimi Hendrix
OH MY GOD!!!!!......someone else who even knows who Richard Thompson is, I've been a fan since his Fairport Convention days. He is easily one of the greatest guitar players of all time (that most people have never heard of), who is a great songwriter (with slyly funny lyrics), with a melodic baritone voice.......He has written over the years some of the best songs about......

A Carnival Ride..........."Wall of Death"
A Motorcycle.............."1952 Vincent Black Lightning"
An Overspending Woman....."Valerie"
Marital Infidelity........"Don't Renege On Our Love"
Misunderstood Intentions.."I Thought She Was Saying Goodluck"

Oh well enough about Richard Thompson.......other favorites...

Mark Knopfler/Dire Straits
Bonnie Raitt
ZZ Top
Bad Company/Free
Led Zeppelin
John Mellencamp
AC/DC

Favorite newcomer.........Gretchen Wilson

After Rush who cares :)
AMEN to that! I've been listening to them since 1975! Still my favorites. I have to admit their last couple of albums did not agree with me. I guess their music and my tastes went their separate ways, finally.

Since folks are putting up plain artists as well, I guess I'll modify my list-

Charlie Daniels
Alabama
C.W. McCall
Jerry Reed
Hank Williams (Sr., Jr., and III!)
Toby Keith
Alan Jackson
Aaron Tippin
Johnny Horton
Merle Haggard

Can ya tell I like country? ;)

I enjoy most of the newer ska music, after all I am an upbeat sort of person!

1. Reel Big fish
2. The Urge
3. Less Than Jake
4. Save Ferris
5. No doubt(older)
6. Mustard Plug

I enjoy alot of other ska/punk bands as well, these are jsut the ones that pop up in my head right at the moment.

Well technically ska is a form of punk rock, but I also like bands such as NOFX, Rancid, MxPx(Christian), Weezer(Emo), and there are alot of local bands I'm into. And don't get me started on pop punk...I hate pop punk...

That's a good list, although I find Gretchen doesn't 'speak' to me, there are other current country artists (Lucinda Williams, Steve Earle, Ryan Adams, Shelby Lynne, even Big and Rich) who I prefer.

I regard Richard Thompson as one of the most original, creative and inspiring artists I have ever heard. As a songwriter and a performer his work excels. As a guitarist .... I've been playing for over 25 years and I can understand, if not physically play, most pop/rock/folk guitarist's work, but Richard Thompson just throws me. The live version of 'Can't Win' from the 'Watching the Dark' triple set is just so 'out there' I can't begin to even get close.

Really I had a tough time restricting myself to 3.

So in addition to Hendrix, Hawkwind, and Motorhead let me add:

Hank Williams Sr.
Flatt and Scruggs
The Greatfull Dead
Johnny Cash
Focus
The Dead Kennedys
Frank Zappa
John Prine
Tangerine Dream

For Lance: I also know who Thompson is. I am impressed somebody knows of Robin Trower. For those of you that don't like Bruce Dickenson, check out Iron Miaden's first LP, by far their best to me. I have a few thousand LPs and several hundred CDs so even naming 30 of my favorite artist would be hard never mind just 3.

Robin Trower! Great guitarist, his sound is something I like to try and emulate when I get the opportunity to 'stretch out'

First Iron Maiden album is well worth a listen, it's the only one of theirs I can listen to to be honest :)

Just for a bit of fun, here are three of my favourite guitar players most people will not have heard of.

David Grissom (played with Joe Ely, John Mellencamp and Storyville)

Warren Haynes (Allman Brothers, Gov't Mule)

Barry Martin (aka 'Snails Pace Slim' of UK band 'The Hamsters')

I'll add, my favorite new band - Muse.

And I heard them before most people in the US ever did. :)
