Whats the AT gun you see the germans using in BoB when the Airborne ta Carentan. Looks like they load a rocket or something down the barrel. Is the item an ASL counter?

Sorry if its to simple a question but German AT guns are not my speciality.

PAK 35/36

The gun is the 3.7cm PAK (Panzer Abwehr Kanone) 35/36 (year of manufacture)...also known as the "door knocker" for its ineffectiveness against Russian armor.

The round you saw was a special HEAT projectile called the Stielgranate 41, with a larger warhead used against armored targets...not really suited as used in BOB, unless you wanna blow off someone's foot. :D

Yes, it is an ASL counter. The HEAT round is only effective out to 9 hexes in ASL, where its kill number (11) drops by 1 for each increase in hex range.

It consisted of an egg-shaped hollow-charge warhead, to the rear of which was attahed a rod inside a finned and perforated sleeve. The round was muzzel loaded; ie., the loader inserted the round into the muzzel end of the gun-barrel(with the finned sleeve sliding down over the outsied of the barrel), and a special blank cartridge was loaded into the breech to fire it. The fin-stabilized projectile had a muzzel velocity of 110m/sec. (361 ft/sec.) and a maximum range of about 364m (400 yards). (Quoted from Chapter H in ASL rules).

Now you're an expert on the PAK 35/36! Later... PT109

There is one in the Mémorial de Bayeux museum, which confirms (if needed!) it was used in Normandy... [/img]

Actually, it was only in 1944 that the 37 became outnumbered by other AT guns in the German army, which goes to show you how poorly equipped some of the German army divisions were.

The HEAT TK of a 37L is 26, just like a PSK.

Yea, I mis spoke Brian, I meant its To Hit # was 11...nasty To Kill # of 26 for sure, like having a longer range Panzerfaust. Also, the gun's ROF is reduced by 1 when sucessfully firing the Stielgranate.

This would be a good weapon to use En Portee as a potential, mobile PF!
