PAK 35/36
The gun is the 3.7cm PAK (Panzer Abwehr Kanone) 35/36 (year of manufacture)...also known as the "door knocker" for its ineffectiveness against Russian armor.
The round you saw was a special HEAT projectile called the Stielgranate 41, with a larger warhead used against armored targets...not really suited as used in BOB, unless you wanna blow off someone's foot.
Yes, it is an ASL counter. The HEAT round is only effective out to 9 hexes in ASL, where its kill number (11) drops by 1 for each increase in hex range.
It consisted of an egg-shaped hollow-charge warhead, to the rear of which was attahed a rod inside a finned and perforated sleeve. The round was muzzel loaded; ie., the loader inserted the round into the muzzel end of the gun-barrel(with the finned sleeve sliding down over the outsied of the barrel), and a special blank cartridge was loaded into the breech to fire it. The fin-stabilized projectile had a muzzel velocity of 110m/sec. (361 ft/sec.) and a maximum range of about 364m (400 yards). (Quoted from Chapter H in ASL rules).
Now you're an expert on the PAK 35/36! Later... PT109
