The Avengers (comic book, not the tv show that was made into a movie about a few years ago). Rumor has it that it's being considered and Jon Favreau (director of the new Iron Man movie) wants to direct it.

I've also always wanted Tom Clancy's "Red Storm Rising" turned into a movie. I don't really think it is feasible as a money-maker, but I always thought it would be cool to see on the big-screen. His second best book, imho, after "Hunt for Red October".

I would like to see a Warhammer 40k trilogy, along the lines of the quality of Lord of the Rings. That could be awesome.

I would also like to see John Carpenter do a sequel to The Thing.

A sequel to The Thing would be excellent. That's one of those stories that I'm surprised hasn't been revisited for an updated version. Did you see the original version with James Arness as 'The Thing'? As much as I love the Carpenter version the old 50s original really creeped me out when I was a kid and I remember it fondly.

Raymond Feist wrote a trilogy of fantasy novels that I always thought would make good movies. It was the 'Magician' series. He's expanded greatly upon them over the years, but that first trilogy was particularly good.

BTW, the trailer for Prince Caspian looks awesome ;)

I've always thought a biopic on the 'Night Witches' of the WW II Red Air Force would have some real potential.

Good guys (or rather gals ) vs. Bad guys, plenty of action scenes, but also plenty of opportunity for tender moments, touchy-feely chick stuff etc.

Plus, think of the 'jiggle' .

Truly something for everyone if done right.

Who would play Lilly Litvak?

Pete,
I think Jenna Jamison might fit the bill as Lilly.

Saw she is trying to quit porn and go straight in films.....

There are some really good suggestions here!

I second Don's idea of a 40K film. Cinematic sci-fi is in desperate need of some originality and I gurantee a 40K movie would be quite unlike anything the big screen has ever seen (assuming it was handled competently, of course).

I also love Chris' suggestion for Red Storm Rising. I just watched Cloverfield and thought it was surprisingly good! But as I sat there watching B-2 bombers carpetbombing NYC and as I heard the arty echo around the city, I thought to myself how cool it would be to have a large scale war movie made today. Something along the lines of Red Dawn but using modern FX and set on an epic scale. Let's cut to the chase, forget the aliens and monsters, and just have an old-fashioned "the British (Reds, Chinese, militia, whatever) are coming!" Or just make World in Conflict into a movie. :)

My idea: David Drake's Hammer's Slammers. Now that is some slam-bang mil sci-fi that would look great on the big screen! I want some tribarrel, hovertank action!

Warhammer 40K. War/Sci-fi just what the doctor ordered. No more PG movies made for TV though. Another good one would be a raited R Silmarillion. Scary but sweet.

Obviously, you didn't stay through the credits for Iron Man! There will be an Avengers movie, it's already in the works!!

Haven't seen Iron Man yet. A buddy of mine saw it over the weekend and did tell me to be sure to stay through the credits. Now I know why ;)

I am...but the only image I'm getting is the jiggle of moobs from your average ASL player...not that 1940s-era Soviet women were ...homely...or anything...

The movie(s) I'd like to see made:
1. Soldier of the Great War
2. Red Storm Rising, though the material might be dated at this point in time. Clancy's USSR/China book might be another good one.
3. Any of the Gabriel Allon or Mitch Rapp novels (anti-terrorism stuff in the vein of the old KGB-CIA Cold War spy thrillers).
4. A Letters/Flags treatment of Tarawa
5. The Dark Tower series
6. The Historian; this has the potential to be great.
7. The Miles Davis story; stop talking and just do it!

The Dark Tower series
I had a difficult time reading this. I know it is considered one of his best works, but I found it rather schizophrenic and just downright weird and hard to follow. I'm not sure this would make for a good movie.

I always thought most of King's books are way over-rated. He is sort of like Clancy - he hits upon a good idea and milks it for all its worth.

Having said that, I think the one King book I would definitely like to see made into a movie is The Talisman. It's not everyday you come across a story that mixes Mark Twain with horror!

I'd like to see the Battle of Trafalgar - Perhaps as a climactic end to a film about the life of Nelson.

That's a great idea! Also, I would love to see a movie about the Battle of Lepanto and one about the Great Seige of Malta (not in that order :D).

If you've ever seen photos of Lily Litvak, you would see the potential. In any case, why would 1940's era Soviet women be any less attractive than today's Russian babes, such as Maria Sharapova?

Well, I wonder if the key is to read them all back-to-back? I was able, after the last two (three?) books were concurrently released, to go back and read them in one honking' go. The Gunslinger itself is genius in how it is written (from the end to the beginning) and set the bar high for the following titles.

The series may have suffered from being too personal for King, especially in some of the latter books. The ending? Well, I can appreciate it, though can see why some may not like it. I always thought endings where yoou had to think a bit rather then have it spelled out for you far superior, and The Dark Tower certainly has that going for it.

Though, to make it a movie or in some fashion translate it to film would require a different approach or at least a certain commitment (time-wise) along the lines of the Harry Potter movies.

The Dark Tower series gives a broad overview of King's overall work over the years, especially as many of his novels are replete with references to it.

What did you think of Black House? The whole "Stinky Cheese" chapter still makes me laugh. I started calling my pug (Otis, named by my kids after that horrible movie...) Stinky Cheese (for, I should think, obvious reasons...:gas: ). Of course it morphed into "Chinky Steese" after my youngest fell in love with Silverstein's Runny Babbit.
