Graf von Volkey delivers zhree, after-dark szenarios. Wittman is Undead—eat your brain out Herr Hausmann—vill be a hit mit ze kritics. Vhat ve in ze biz call a Kritical Schmasche Hit, Zuperschweredoppelnnutzblasten for short. Delicious.
Board 77 is in zat gauche Norman style: bocage gridlock. It has disturbed me almost to ze point of insanity. Zere, I am insane now.

Vere do I begin? Ze szenario printed on ze back of ze cover sheet is a cultural faux-pas on ze same scale as selling a work zat is still on view at the Degenerate Art Exhibition. If we count zis “cover art” of an abomination, zhere are 13 scenarios in zis Ostfront-thema, Shtarter Kit-compatible pak by you know who. Ze szenarios bore me. I am zo dunn mit Shtarter Kit. Ze Red Army has no imagination. Subhuman waves of berserk proletariat expressing ze most tedious elements of socialist realism.
Ze Stalinst architecture of double-wide board rB reinforces zis tedium. As mit all zings Soviet, it is a crude remake, a re-imagining of ze unimaginable solidarist workers’ settlement zat ze earlier board r was not. Niki (Khrushchev) would have disapproved of ze board-specific factory overlay, as much as he disapproved of the Moscow Master Plan (and I of ze Arbeitsrat für Kunst). But I digress.
Buy ze pak. Recycle ze szenario cards. Und display board rB as a Soviet-era poster. It will provide you mit hours of entertainment vhen your daughter’s art-history friends visit.

Ze Shtarter Kit szenarios in zis issue have no artistic merit. I will not mention zem again. Ze partisan szenario, on ze ozzer hand, is... genius! By seemingly embracing ze clichés of ze vest, Herr Pitman is underscoring its excruciating banality. Reminiscent of Otto Dixie’s gorgeous Sturmtruppe geht unter Gas vor, Herr Pitman’s bug hunt is a delightful absurdity of ze most mentally disturbing kind. I feel emotionally obliterated.
Ze szenario stars a battalion of burly Amerikan marines—zey are so beautiful and angular, if zey were panzers, zey would be an Abteilung of Panzerkampfwagen VI Tiger Ausführung E. Nietzsche’s sieben-sechts-acht Übermensch must find a final solution to ze tactical problem: a devilish and variable partisan force hidden in dense jungle. Ooooh, I love ze jungle. Do you want to touch my monkey? Liebe meine Abschminke! Embrace ze heart of mein darkness!
(Es tut mir lieid. I got a little carried away zere.) Ze best part of ze partisan szenario is board 78—Edson’s Ridge mit-out ze Open Grund. Artist turned art critic Klaus Fischer is generally in favour of ze minimalist presentation, but kommented zat ze foliage should have been rendered darker, much darker. Textures intrigue me. Kurt Miller wanted more pain, more bamboo. I disagree. Ze best kind of pain is unexpected, which is why I prefer panji. Ze agony is gorgeous. I need to be slapped.
Vhere vas I? Ah yes, ze ozzer ASL szenario is a revanchist piece set in Alsace-Lorraine. “École de Nancy” was designed by ze Alsatian recluse (mit ze split personality) André Birkenstock. In zis case, it is ze schule of ze title that is hidden in ze Pine Woods of board 78. Ze schule overlay (also available in ze forthcoming overlay pack) is not placed on board until ze enemy has LOS to it, which is to say vhen ze enemy becomes adjacent. Enemy is such a kommbative wort. I prefer kleine Einsatzgruppen. Zey are represented by fragile, black 3-2-6 MMC (mit ein Gulaschkanone on ze back—zey are wun Morale Scheck fon ze zoup kitchen). (I am partial to black, but you may have guessed zis by now.) These little darlings are included on a half-sheet of black-core A3, along wit chic Franc Tireurs in woodland-camouflage schema.
Zis is Art Nouveau at its finest! Vhy is it zat ze truly brilliant are doomed to a life of obscurity, surrounded by a sea of mediocrity, only to end up covered in sores in a pool of their own filth? Oh vell, ze beat goes on.
Now is ze time on Sprockets vhen ve dance!

You German fellows may have longer words, but I learned this summer the Swedes up the difficulty level for pronunciation, took several days to get fallskärmjägeren and Peugeot correct. BTW: I'm also proud of the fact I can say Nahverteidigungswaffe correctly.As long as you can say Jägermeister...all is gut
So OT at this point, but fun must be had.
