Going to start painting my 1/600th ACW naval stuff whilst home a package arrived with lots of thoroughbred miniature ships in it:)
Sounds good, will you take a painting kit away with you when at work? I know a few who do.

Cheers

Yes the job is going great, leaving me really tired at night but in a good way. Great company to work for, they are being very helpful

Hey gang. Olli, the Naval project sounds cool, hope you enjoy it. What are the rules you plan on using? I have often been tempted to do the Nappy Naval with ships from GHQ. I've heard the Thouroughbred ACW line is very nice. What's your opinion? I got my first tank kit for my new Bolt Action project, a Sherman M4A3, looks challenging. I've not put together a model kit in decades so should prove interesting. I hate painting infantry generally so have vowed that I won't do any vehicles until the intantry on hand is done and based. May be hard for me because I love painting vehicles.

Not me, but I have watched a video on it, good luck with your project.

My new one is to paint up the Prussians and most of the French for Waterloo in 6mm, we are going to fight the battle in 2015 so i have some time to go

Sounds like fun Ian. Did the 100 days in 15 about 25 years ago. Had quite a nice force for all the combatants. Only played two times with them though. I started doing a lot of travel related to my business and just never got a chance to use them. They sat for about 10 years and I ended up trading them for a load of unpainted nappy 25s. Good luck with the project, and keep the pics coming. Since I can't read I need pics, lots of pretty colorful pics.

LOL, and I was typing real slow cos I thought you can't read fast ;-)

Had a shock over the weekend I don't have as many French as I thought, mostly as I have used the French figures for my Neapolitan's, Italian's and Irish. Yes you heard me right! all these are for the Spanish battles as will be the Swiss, Baden, Vistula and Dutch amongst a few others.

Here is the Irish (really should not have the Eagle with them as this is the second Battalion and the Eagle was with the First but I have not taken it off yet

Here is all the French I have painted for the Iberian Project so far, many of these will also be used for the Russian and 100 Days Projects but I need a LOT more, infantry wise about 120 plus bases, good job I have just over two years to get it done.

The Thoroughbred 1/600th are the best on the market especially for detail I recommend you check out their web site. ACW is my next love of war games after ASL, many years ago I collected converted and painted both armies for Gettysburg, using the Johnny Reb rules and unit sizes I used figures from all companies that did 15mm at the time so made the Rebs ( my favourites ) look very irregular! Ended up selling the lot to an American serviceman. I regret this so much nowadays!

Nice pics Ian, and thanks Olli. In my reading of wargames magazines it always seems like ACW has quite a strong following over your way. Always found that interesting. Had an old WI mag with some absolutely stunning pics of a series of ACW games held at the Wargames Holiday Center. Did start a 6mm Adler ACW project years ago but the period has never seemed to hold my interest like the European conflicts, and then only Napoleonics and WW2. Had a foray into medieval 25mm England/France, a project my then teenage son and I did. Was a lot of fun but very short lived. Anyway, thanks for the updates gentlemen, always nice to see what others have going. Now I'm off to paint some Samurai. Be good!

So I had mentioned earlier that I was starting a "Bolt Action" 28mm WW2 project and thought I'd update. I got the "Normandy" starter set, a box each of German and American infantry, A PzIVH resin kit, a M4A3 kit, a StuG G kit, 2 US 3/4 ton weapons carriers, the "Hamlet" buildings kit(this was kind of disappointing as all three ruined structures in this kit are the same building, though there is a lot of flexibilty in the construct options), a Pak40 with crew, a US 57mm AT gun with crew, a MG42 mg with crew, a US .50cal with crew, A US 60mm mortar with crew, a German 81mm mortar with crew, a Marder 2, and a StuG B for when I start an early war project(it was one of those to good to be true buys). Since most everything arrived Mondy and Tuesday I've been frantically trimming and glueing the infantry together. These little plastic dudes are fun assembling, you get a lot of weapon and equipment options to make each mini more individual and the heads are separate so you get a bit of flexibilty there. I have always used metal minis in all my projects and admit to some hesitation with the plastics, but I love them. The details, especially in the weapon castings, is very clean and crisp. I must say that I like a little heft in my castings, but using washer bases on these takes care of that. So far I've managed to get the US infantry box assembled and am now working on the German box. I'll still have the "Normandy" box of infantry to do, 20 each US and German, but that should go fairly quick. I'm surprised at how much I've been able to do with most of my time being spent caring for my Dad. So far I've been able to resist doing the armor, I'm hoping to get the infantry assembled and painted before I get to the "fun" part. I'm thinking that once I get this protion done I'll look at getting some US Marines, British, and Japanese and do a little PTO skirmishing. Will try to get some pics up in one of my albums on my page here. Enough typing, time to get back to trimming and glueing.

I am working on ten stands (30 figures) of 15mm ACW Union Zouves in turbans. The castings are from Old Glory, which I really like, though sometimes they are difficult to get cleaned up. My biggest problem is that I am so slow when it comes to painting, and of course, these Zouves require more work and detail than most other figures. Oh well, at least it isn't a race.
Any one else painting 15mm ACW figures?
One other question: I like Winsor & Newton sable brushes ( sizes OO and OOO) but am having a hard time finding them here in the States. Anyone know of a supplier?

I have used the brushes you are talking about, great tools. Brookhurst Hobbies in Garden Grove CA have them, got mine on a visit there. They also have them listed on their website and you can order from them. Hope that helps.

Brookhurst is a great place, and have very good customer service and fairly quick ordering. If you are ever in the area I highly recommend a visit. I go about once a year and have been going for about 12 years and still I don't think I've seen everything. Got a few ASL OOP items from them at good prices. They have a great selection of Peter Pig WW2 stuff, again at good prices. They cover about anything gaming hobby you could think of and if they don't have it they are happy to order for you.

Been to that shop whilst on a six week vacation several years back I was blown away by the amount of stuff it had there! A huge selection of American and European stuff.

Hey Olli, glad you liked it. I try to endorse them whenever I get the chance. They have always been nice and helpful to me, and my little girl. There is another game shop, Pasadena I think, that is supposed to have more than Brookhurst. Its called the Last Grenadier. I had planned to go a couple years ago but after reading some reviews decided to stick with Brookhurst. The reviews said that L.G. had a ton of stuff but it was next to impossible to find anything due to clutter and terrible organization. Maybe when I'm out over the Holidays. Brookhurst has undergone a major re-organization over the last year and a half. It is much more shopper friendly now. Just went last weekend and it is great. They have also started a shopper program where you get a 10% credit of the current purchase at your next visit. They give you like a credit card with your amount on it and you present it the next time you make a purchase. Pretty sweet deal. Anyhow, hope you can make it over again.

Okay, just an update. Bought some 15mm WW2 German Panzergrenadiers off ebay and got a smoking deal. Nicely painted, based and terrained for $18 for 38 figs. That price included shipping. Took a break from my Bolt Action project and worked on 15mm WW2 for a bit. I've decided that the theaters I had not done in 15mm I would cover in the 28mm Bolt Action project. In 15mm I do East front early to mid war, and the early war in the west. So I'll do late war west front from D-Day on, and the Pacific in 28mm. I've still not decided if I want to do North Africa yet, maybe when I've finished what I currently have going I'll think about it. Bought a bunch of British and Japanese 28mm when visiting Brookhurst a few weeks back. They are sitting in the closet for now. Trying to finish off the US infantry and a few support weapons, then I'll start the German infantry. Then get a few vehicles put together. After that I'd like to start the Japanese and British, not sure which first. I had the notion of completing the US infantry before starting the German infantry, then doing the support and vehicles. I have stuck to that so far but I may rethink the approach with the Japanese and Brits. May do a few of one then a few of the other and alternate until done. I love doing vehicles so I'll wait to the last before I start them. Will try to get some pics up in a portfolio on my profile page soon. Unfortunately my camera is acting wonkey sometimes so we'll just have to see about that. Let us know what you guys/gals are up to. Oh, one last thing, my little girl has expressed an interest in the "Infinity" game so I've been taking a look at that also. Looks fun, the minis are very nice looking and it looks fairly inexpensive to start. Corvus Belli actually has a starter set of the rules available as a free DL on the Infinity website.

It's been what... years since I last painted a model of any type. So today, I decided it was a good a time as any to start and that is precisely what I did. I primed 3 Space Marines and 5 Imperial Guardsmen. In the background you can see a box of Saurus Warriors, the beginnings of my Warhammer Lizardmen Army:

I also purchased a House of Delaque Gang for Necromunda since GW is trying to kill off the stocks... Hoping Escher sticks around for another month so I can get them too..

Nice, glad you got the urge to do some painting. I go through periods where the last thing I want to do is paint a mini. Fortunately I have not had one lately, I have a bunch of stuff to paint. My daughter and I took the plunge into Infinity a couple weeks ago. Man the minis are so nice, very well cast and dynamic poses. The game looks fairly easy to pick up. I've taken a break from gluing Germans together and been painting some of the Infinity figs and doing a lot of terrain, sci-fi stuff, constructing. Everything I've read states that you need a lot of terrain for the game or you'll get pasted any time you try to move. Been fun, a new venture for me as I have only ever done historicals. Wanted to get up some pics but my camera isn't cooperating again, piece of junk, Vivitar!
