I am looking for a Rev War game and it is slim pickings. You either have Birth of America 2, Campaign 1776 or For Liberty!

Tough call, but I dont like the way For Liberty plays.

Birth of America 2 is cool, but I want hexes and units on the map that look like miniatures

Is Campaign 1776 an outdated beast or does it still hold up well?

When it says you can fight the whole war I am assuming there is a huge map of the East/South Coast and you can move entire armies around?

Also does this link still exist?

LAST ONE:

Do all the games in this series update each other? So Mexican American War changes would be in 1776?

Any replies appreciated or screenshots if you got em

Hi Hudson:

That link doesn't appear on the site (I'll see if I have a copy of it on my hard drive somewhere and upload it). It would be to the site prior to when I started managing it. I think maybe Rich uploaded the only /help folder -but, I'll see -it might be too that it was old info as well - in that the way HPS titles work, they continually patch a title to the current version of the game engine within a series.

A page that might help out with what you are looking for is: http://hist-sdc.com/spotlights/series_eaw.html

Typically you are dealing with battles. The linked campaign that comes on the disk is fairly brief to say the least, however there are some add on campaigns available on the HPS site that are a little more developed.

Edited to add:
Do all the games in this series update each other? So Mexican American War changes would be in 1776?
I must have missed this one, the answer is yes and holds true for all of John Tiller's titles with HPS as well as Paul Bruffell's Ancient Wars series.

Also you'd asked for some screen shots of 1776 - disclaimer is that I think Al sometimes has screen shots using other user created graphics (not the stock standard that come on the disk) - these are generally found at download sites -and I can't say as I am familiar with the set that he is using. This site might be of interest to you as well: http://alscolonialarmies.blogspot.com/

Hudson,

The only game I own, from the ones you listed, is HPS Campaign 1776 and it is alot of fun ( All I play is PBEM games). To date, I have only played the small to medium battles/maps, so I won't comment on the big campaign stuff, since I don't know. If you choose the Campaign 1776, you will have no problem finding tips, and advice/answers to your questions, since HPS customer support is very active on this web site and also over at Wargamer.com. Below are some links that will show and list what some of the extras add-ons are, that are available for Campaign 1776.
