Looking for a good 2 player game I will enjoy but so will my fiancee (who doesn't like ultra competitive or high learning curve games...) Suggestions?

Hanabi, a card game of deduction. Plays in about 20 minutes, cooperative, simple rules, fascinating gameplay. It won tyhe Spield des Jahr last year, and deservedly.

Wy wife and I have been playing some Castles of Burgundy and Pathfinder Adventre Card Game recently. Two very different games - Burgundy is a medium weight Euro with a pasted on theme and excellent gameplay. Pathfinder is a card game which plays out like an old school tabletop fantasy RPG scenario.

Speaking of GMT's sale, I picked up A World at War for $100, and, separately, the Battle for Normandy. I'll be moving to a new, and bigger, home so a gaming room will become a reality. Finally, I'll have room for a monster wargame :)

Played the latter last night for the first time, with our latest ASL recruit here. We were still figuring out rules but picked it up pretty quick and it was a lot of fun, and quick to play. Discovered it can be very tricky closing some of those locations without the right skill combos, need to do some recce and planning before jumping right in trying to clear and close them. Well worth trying for people who like sword and sorcery RPG related stuff. We each took one character, in retrospect would have made more sense to each take two - more locations, but much better skill combos/ability to split up and function in two teams of two.

I agree - my wife and I play with two characters each, which offers more diversity and specialisation opportunities.

Much more strategy and forward-thinking involved in it than I thought there would be. Great game.
I play it solo, with two characters (Ezren and Seelah).
I am having a blast.
Playing the complementarity of the characters and tuning them as they progress is quite nice.
I once had them both killed : coming back at level was a PITA (had to have them replay some key scenarios of the Adventure path was not fun).
So now I don't sanction death too harshly.
The character is out of the scenario, but comes back with all its equipment and improvements: I find the fun of the adventure is more interesting than having to climb back all the slope again - it can take some hours...
That said, I really am cautious about putting my characters in harm's way. But (very) bad luck can suddenly throw them down much faster than reasonably anticipated.
I had Ezren whacked during the final scenario of Adventure 2, whilst Seelah did manage to kill the Boss alone.
I decided to go along by reviving Ezren.

Got Hoplite on Friday. A bit more heft in the box than usual. Components are up to GMT's usual high standards, a colour rulebook is a first from them.

I doubt that I will play Plataea soon, it looks like a real monster.

Have you actually played with only 2 players? Love it for 4, but doesn't seem like it would work as well with only 2.

Yup, my wife and I have over 100 plays under our belts. We've also played it three, four and five player, which has a different dynamic but is also excellent.

I think it works very well with two - we've scored 25/25 on a few occasions now and have moved on to playing with the multi-coloured suit. I think the advantage of two players playing regularly is that each player develops an understanding of the other's play and a shared strategy develops. Bear in mind that we play with a fairly strict interpretation of the rules - no reminders of previous clues, no non-verbal clues etc.

The Longest Day, 3-4 guys for about three days and made it to the 17th of June, over the Memorial Day weekend. More errata than there should be in the original rules so we decided to use the 2nd edition rules and edit out what we didn't like and added in our house rules. I swear just once I would like to play one of these monsters from the 70's/ 80's that wasn't so reliant on errata. For punishment I got a punched copy of Atlantic Wall for 85 bucks delivered.
