Me and my buddy may have been playing late and reading more in the rules than we needed to. We've come up with some questions.

Using board 41 here is the situation.

Russian 4-4-7 in W3 and has WA over a German 4-6-7 in W4. German 4-6-7 in Y4 shoots at the 4-4-7. Does the 4-4-7 get the woods vs Y4 and the wall vs W4?

Thanks!

The 4-4-7 receives no TEM at all when fired on from Y4. B9.31 says: "A target unit claiming WA (9.32) does not receive in-hex TEM", and this is exactly what's happening here - the unit receives no in-hex TEM since it has WA. You are correct that it receives the wall TEM vs the W4 unit though.

Also, note that the 4-4-7 could forfeit WA at any time and receive the in-hex TEM, but NOT after the shot is declared and before it is resolved.

The new rules specify the times when you can claim WA. Do they allow you to forfeit WA at other times?

Yes. See the bottom of B8vB and the top of B9 once you get your RB handy. :)

From B9.322:

"WA must be forfeited immediately if a unit no longer fulfills 9.32 and may be forfeited at any other time. Claiming/forfeiting WA is not considered an action for RPh limits (A3.1) or concealment loss (A12.141). Claiming/forfeiting WA can never be done between an enemy action being declared and that action being completed, e.g., fire vs the unit claiming WA."
