The lethality of Riding vehicles into combat is deadly. Potentially 3 MC rolls due to one shot.
It doesn't often come up, but if Defending and you can guess where Riders might transit or stop, try boresighting such a Location w/MGs (and/or IFE weapons).

C6.44 A MG/IFE non-ordnance attack [EXC: all forms of Residual FP; A8.2, A9.22] vs a unit in the firing weapon’s Bore Sighted Location may deduct two from its IFT DR ... [EXC: vs Infantry, only such an attack conducted as Defensive First Fire (A8.1) qualifies for this -2 DRM]...
Because PRC are =not= Infantry, PRC are subject to IFT boresighting DRM not only in D1F but also in any fire phase.

Just one of the examples of your great and most insightful posts when it comes to the nuances of of ASL rules.
I love it!

It's great to have you back regularly haunting the forum after your hiatus.

Exposing Riders to fire in ASL is indeed extremely risky:

First of all, the vulnerability while being Riders (possibly being subject to BS DRM as described by Wayne).

Next, the Bailing Out process, which is highly likely to destroy any SW which the Passengers might be carrying.

Finally, the attack by RFP caused by the attack on the vehicle (unless it is destroyed) on the former Riders that turn into Infantry in the moment in which they hit the ground.

It sounds more like they turn into a pink mist when they hit the ground.

The Russians don't care, the follow up troops will pick up the pieces later on... but if I am playing with riders, get them off before they take fire if at all possible.

Historically, did the Americans use Riders? Their increased broken Morale makes them a better than most target for it (maybe keep it to Elite though, as Riders with a ML6 are not something I'd want to risk).

And of course the standard SS - ML8, broken ML9, now you're talking. Too bad there are so many modern scenarios where the SS are not the same Übermenschen.

I recall reading about their use during Cobra specifically.

Bill Mauldin cartoon: Willie and Joe's squad are riding on a M4 with German defensive fire whizzing by. The tank commander turns his head to them and says:
"You gents relax. We got three inches of armor!"
