Hi everyone!

In my current EA-game, my opponent has invaded France. Much to our surprise the French still hold out half a year later. So my opponent calles in Italy and invades from the south, too :(. The problem: He has taken nizza, and now we got the message "vichy collapses". He also got withdrawls of vichy units, which, of course, not even exist, as France still fights. Will this be a problem in the future? Can we do something about it?

Thanks a lot!

That message is directly linked with Allied liberation of Lyon (58,65). Please check if Lyon was re-occupied by Allied units after being previously ocupied by Axis forces.
The other only possible reason is the activation of Spain by Axis player. That would also cause Vichy to collapse.

However both causes shouldn't happen before fall of France... :hmmm:

Lou took a look at this, but his password doesn't seem to work, so he asked me to pass it on....

If I could post this this I would. I believe we have traced the
problem with Vichy withdrawal on the forum.
--
Event 82 capture of Paris triggered Event 85.
Vichy is created by Event 85 withdrawing the French Republic forces.

Event 85 triggers Event 207 – setting ownership for Vichy unit
deployments.

Event 207 triggers Event 360.

Event 360 enables event 361 – 2 occupies Lyons (Allies) forcing Vichy
withdrawal, Event 215.

The presence of Allied Forces in Lyons or JUST an Allied Zone of
Control when Event 361 was triggered caused the Vichy withdrawal. The
reason for thinking another location might have been the source is that
Event 361 when triggered takes place after a four turn delay.

The above events worked as intended – the problem is that an event is
obviously missing, OR we cannot find it.

ON TURN 1, there should have been a Cancel Event 361. As the event was
never canceled it remained active and was triggered thru the sequence
above.
--
We are not aware of a way to recover the game by adding a Cancel Event
some turns prior to the problem.

A suggestion dependent on your opponent would be to go backwards.

-2x allied turn abandon Lyon and adjacent hexes.

-1x Axis Parachute unit land in Lyon. The reason for this time frame is
that Lyon MUST BE Axis controlled prior to the turn x Paris is captured.

Now will the battles be fought again, or will you just follow the
previous track of the units? A mutual decision being required. Battle
results will never be identical; missing the losses for two turns is
somewhat minor towards saving the time invested in the game.
--
A way to avoid another potential problem with this sequence is make the
delay Event 361, 8 or more turns. With the French withdrawn, the
British will not leave anyone behind to keep Lyon.

Thank for explaining that. Problem is, we have played 10-15 more turns already. Will it influence the game very much will simply Vichy-France never come to exist?

I'm afraid that you've lost them for good. If you were both determined to go the full distance, do either of you have a saved game turn from prior to the withdrawal that you can replay, avoiding the Allies retaking Lyon?

Although, frankly, if the Battle of France is still going on after six months I can assure you from bitter experience that the likely scale of German losses is pretty well going to preclude a successful Russian campaign (let alone the Balkans and Greece).

Thank you for the info. We have decided to go on without Vichy by setting some houserules (no allied invasion in south france...). We are in winter 40/41 already, and I still hold Paris. Although my opponent has taken the balcans in 1939, his losses must be tremendous. I don't think the Axis will make it to '45. Well, the Vichy-troops wouldn't make the difference for Adolf :D
