Just curious, I don't want to fuss over a poll though, but I'm interested if I am alone in disliking vehicles in the game. Okay not really hating them or anything like that, I just prefer scenarios that are mainly infantry engagements. Preferably 1-2 boards. I'll play anything of course, but I prefer vehicles be downplayed. And the same for the larger guns.

I think the game could be a lot more Squad leader, and a lot less Battalion commander.

I like vehicles. Playing combined arms adds a level of complexity and interaction that is fascinating and challenging.

I love three board scenarios. A while ago I played one set in Barbarossa. Germans force assaulted a long village of mostly wooden buildings while moving in across mostly open terrain. Really invoked the feeling of being on the steppes of western Russia bearing down on a village in the early days of the war.

I am sort of with you on the infantry only scenarios. When the old Squad Leader came out that was all there was. Then they releases Cross of Iron and introduced tanks to sway more war gamer's over over to the game, for the majority of your WW 2 gamer's are "Tread Heads" at heart. It also made the game more complicated.

There were tanks and vehicles in SL, from scenario 3 Streets of Stalingrad on, but with very limited rules.

I like combined arms a lot, as I like to be able to play a variety of historical related situations.
Limiting myself to infantry only would be frustrating - even more if excluding Guns.
That said, I don't like tank only scenarios while I do have fun with infantry only ones.

The idea that ASL is mainly an infantry game is wrong, IMO.
It is a very old and aged idea that could apply to the SL base game.
Vehicle rules have been brought to a good level of sophistication and they are quite interesting and fun to use.

After that, we all have our personal tastes.
Even if I don't like to play this or that aspect of the game - e.g. Caves, Night rules - I don't wish that ASL were limited to my own preferences.

I like vehicles.

They add a lot to the game because they can do things, which infantry can't and vice versa. It is an art to capably play them, and I've observed some truly inspiring moves at times that just made me go WOW!

That said, I do not like "armor only" scenarios. Basically ASL is and remains an infantry game.

Fish eventually got to the point where didn't want to play armor heavy scenarios. I liked armor but actually I liked it all.

I would go so far as to say that I find most all infantry scenarios to be boring, just like I find all vehicle scenarios...but that's just me.

As many of you know from my scenario designs, I prefer infantry or infantry heavy scenarios.
But I have been known for a few Inf/AFV scenarios.

Infantry Only can be improved with the use of various entry methods...
Paradrops, gliders, rafts, landing craft and LVT (recalled after unloading).
Same for various terrain... very high lighthouses, islands, sandbars, etc.

I admit to sometimes enjoying the simplicity of a scenario without vehicles, but overall I want the whole WW2 experience.
