I am much less ambitious. I simply use one version of VASSAL for one thing and another for another. Currently, I have a regular game with two opponents, a long-running CG in 6.5.1/3.2.17. We started it using that and finish it that way.

I have another regular opponent who is currently on 3.4.11 (unless he has changed without telling me!) and so I use 6.6.1/3.4.11 with him.

When doing development work on VASL, I tend to use the latest VASSAL version. So, 6.6.2 has been developed in 3.4.5. I see 3.5.5 is out today and I will move to whatever the latest version of VASSAL is when I put out the official release.

I have not had any major conflict issues but then I always start VASSAL, start VASL, etc, etc. Now that VASSAL shows the VASSAL version in the top of the VASSAL window, I find it easier to ensure I am using the correct VASL/VASSAL combo.
I'll let you know when I become unconsciously competent at launching vassal versions instead of clicking on file saves :) I'd say I've reached the consciously competent stage, at least...

It is certainly helpful to see what going on when the VASSAL version is in the window.

wrt 3.5.5, should we start using that to test the 6.2.2-beta or wait and still use 3.5.4 for the testing? Sounds like the latter.

Yes, the later is correct. I suspect we may have 3.5.6 before the official release of VASL6.6.2. I will build it with the latest version of VASSAL, whatever that is. VASSAL3.5.5 and 3.5.6 are just bug fixes for 3.5.4 or so I gather so I don't think they will have much impact on VASL.

No, I'd like the errorLog. You can get it from that dialog or from Help > Show Error Log in the Module Manager.

I'd have to send you a notepad/word file., if you want to PM me your email addy.

That is the complete errorLog from 3.5.4, or just the top few lines?

Hang on, I think I misread what you posted above. Those screenshots are from 3.2.17, which isn't current. Were you having any crashes in 3.5.4?

Just that one time, as initially expressed, that I was trying to save a setup file in 3.5.4 using vasl 6.2.2-beta and 3.5.4 crashed inexplicably. We are indeed having two threads of conversation in here about both VASSAL modules and perhaps there is an interaction between them. I have no idea. Anyway I have the data if you still want it.

Ah, I see. We're not going to pursue problems with 3.2.17 unless they still occur in current versions.

I found a small bug to fix. While setting up my units, I turn off the "Mark units moved" option. When I moved a Russian vehicle, however, VASL flagged it as moved. VASL did not flag Russian infantry.

I have added this to the bug list. Thanks.

Hi Doug

The LOS for Red Barricades does not appear to be working for the overlays for the gutted roofless factories. Is there something I'm not doing when overlaying the overlay?

I’m using VASSAL 3.5.5 VASL version 6.6.2-beta3

Any help would be appreciated

First of all, upgrade to the official release of VASL6.6.2 which is now out.

It won't change the behaviour of the overlays but at least you will be on the most recent vasl version.

As a rule overlays shutoff los. Normally, you should get a red square highlighting the overlay and a message saying los disabled due to the overlay. LOS on the map where there is no overlay should still work. When I used RBv3 with VASL6.6.2 and add some gutted factory overlays, the los continues to work even when it touches the overlay but not taking into account the terrain changes. Hmm

I can fix this so that the red square around the overlay and the warning message show up. I can't fix it so that the los engine correctly knows what terrain changes have been made when an overlay is added. It is doable but there is just way too much work involved. The los engine can manage certain terrain transformations but not the kind used on the RB map.

Hi Doug

Thanks for the reply,

I completely understand the level of effort you've put in to complete the LOS for the RB maps, please accept my gratitude on behalf of all of us who play using the maps.
I just wondered whether I had installed the overlays incorrectly.

I suppose my biggest wish list would be to allow for the roofless hexes in the gutted factories but as an old programmer I can appreciate the complexities of trying to account for terrain changes, I honestly don’t know how you’ve managed it.

Anyway thanks again, I’ll just have to go back to counting hexes to work out the number of blind hexes over factory walls

OTOH, you could use the Lazy LOS feature. Still have to count hexes but it cuts down on the higher math and rulz reading to determine how many blind hexes there are.

I mean, there aren't that many buildings on the RB map that can get you high enough to see over down into a roofless factory hex, are there?

Hi
I cant seem to download this file, unlike the other extensions when I click on it I just get a screen full of gobbledygook and only extensions marked ".vmdx" appear on my system.

Any help would be appreciated

right-click the screen with the goobledygook and select the "Save As" option from the menu and then you should see a dialogue to set the file name - which should be showing the correct vmdx file name. Click OK and it will download. I did this just the other day and it worked fine.

Don't know why it does that but it does.
