You can play the scenarios that you can download from the VASL website. Just download them then, unzip them into your VASL folder. From the main window select load then the scenario number that you wish to play this will load the board(s) (and any needed overlays) and all of the counters that you will need into the game. It should be noted that the "board directory" initially reads "null". You must go to the preferances screen and select boards for the "board directory". As far as I can see you will still need the original scenario card for victory conditions, SSR's etc....

I just saw the Critical Hit offers VASL downloads of their historical map. You still need to buy the module in order to get the scenario cards and special rules though.

@ Dave Briggs

While perusing another ASL forum I came upon a series of posts that suggested major differences between ASL boards and VASL boards. Can you tell us what those differences are and how they will effect game play?
The LOS can be different from the originals and their swamp, marsh doesn't stay within the hex but slops over. So there are differences, but the differences effect both players and don't seem to harm the scenario fun factor.

At some point it would be nice if we could have two of the more experienced players set up a game and play using VASL. The rest of us could them tune in as observers and watch the action. This method has been used in the past as a way for beginners to learn, and it could also make a fascinating AAR tool with a neutral commentator involved.
Sam Belcher and another have been doing this -- don't know if they have finished their game or not, but they do post dates and times to observe over on the other forum..

Don't know if you could coordinate with them or not.

Here's some data for newbies from the ASLML:

Hey! He didn't just "break" the LMG squad. He KIA'd the 7-0 leader too!

Style point to Tuomo...

Perhaps??? Perhaps???? Yeah, It was a foolish decision. Typical of my
"style" of play.

I hope not. :)

I hope we can capture some of those commemorative pieces. They'll go for
big buck on ebay someday. Of course, Tom's decision to drive his big
tanks down the road CE had nothing to do with the big guy now being
stunned. :)

"Round 2 of the Sam-Tom matchup is scheduled for tonight on the VASL 4 server, roughly approximately 7 pm PST. The scenario is The Agony of Doom. We're about to begin German turn 2. Come one, come all."
