I took a quick look at this issue, it seems like the solution proposed by @johnl Another solution to your particular problem would be to simply hover the mouse over the counter, you should see you hip BS counter when the popup appears with the contents of the stack.
Thanks for your time, for me, however, the HIP counter does not show up on mouse hover.

I beleive this has been the same way for HIP mine counters for some time.

I don't seem to have a problem with 6.6.9/3.7.15 (no extensions) and setting up HIP counters and stacks myself, but I certainly see it in online games. Is it due to the presence of another player affecting the HIP counter?

I beleive so. From memory I never have a problem when setting up but as soon as an enemy stack moves into my HIP mines I can no longer see the minefields on hover over and indeed need to move his stack to select my mines.

When another player is present there must be an ownership property changing the position of the counter relative to the "stack".

Is it possible to have the counters window "always on top" or a setting to allow it to switch. (It may be possible already but I don't know).

The problem I have is whenever I pull a counter and drop it onto the map the counters window drops behind the map window so before I draw a new type of counter I need to bring it to the front again.

This is the definition of a first world problem I acknowledge.

The best way to deal with the counter window is to configure the QC toolbar with the counters you use the most during play. Note that you can place counters from extensions there as well. You no longer need to get to the counter tray for probably 95% of the counters you use. The other way I have found useful is to size your map window to fit to one side of the counter tray and chat windows, then maximize the map window during play. If you need to look at the other windows just click to unmax the map window and they are now visible.

WRT to HIP counter getting obscured… my guess has always been that when the non-owner moves their stack into the hex, VASL doesn’t treat their stack as stacking with the HIP counter so you get this ‘4th dimensional’ situation were there are two stacks exactly in the same place that aren’t stacked. Just my guess.

I like to use HIP border overlays for BS and what not as my workaround since you can always see a HIP border even with an enemy stack above it.

Been an issue for years though, yes.

I’m not seeing what you are talking about or how it relates to the topic of easing access to the counter window when it drops behind the other VASL windows?

I suspect "WRT to HIP counter getting obscured… " is what you are missing. Another topic being discussed in this thread.

HIP is implemented at the VASSAL level so its not so easy to tinker with it, perhaps the easiest solution is to offset the counters when an opposing unit enters the hex.
Unfortunately, you still cannot select those hip counters directly even if clearly visible now because they are at a different layer, but at least you know they are there.

I play a lot of scenarios with LV hindrances.

Would it be possible to have a setting (no mist all the way through to extremely heavy) that displays the LV hindrance mods at any given range on a linked ACQ or the los tool?

It is a pain to have to measure range, then divide by 6 and FRD/FRU to work out the LV mods.

I imagine that my linked ACQ to the panther in the (moderate) mist would say something like "Range 14 +4".

It would be great if the los thread changes colour to show blocked when the LV total is at 6 or more.

I believe that this simple change would make thing KGP much more palatable.

Draggable Overlays

The Smoke and WP barrage overlays cannot be changed to dispersed strength.

Is it possible to make DM counters HIPable please.
Why? As far as I know anything with a DM counter on it would be broken, and could not be HIP. Am I missing something?

I ask since almost anything could be done, but that doesn't mean you may want it done.

Mine Counters

When I reveal a mine counter it is possible for my opponent to reveal said minefield counter. So I need to put a generic mine counter on map and leave the true mine counter (with type factors etc) HIP beneath it.

Would it be possible to have amine counter that only the owner can reveal? This would obviate the need for two counters.

The only time I can think of is when using cave complexes, which is what I'm doing atm.

There is no counter for the KW version of the M26 that I can find. Am I missing it?

Is it possible to have a "sD used" function added to T34 85's, possibly under depletable ammo?
