Korea Terrain in Effect Button

ATM it takes numerous tabs/clicks to effect the necessary changes for KW terrain.

Would it be possible to combine these changes in one button a la PTO? With the paddy field season button on the same tab?
This is a Great idea.

I have noted, that overlays do not seem to get "winterized" if placed by the "Drag&Drop" method, while they are if placed by the "traditional" method:

26881

Top: Overlay RR2 (with some draggable overlays...) placed by Drag&Drop, then "Ground Snow" selected. No snow...
Bottom: Overlay RR2 placed by "traditional" method. Winterization works.

Furthermore, I noticed, that for Draggable Overlays - here the "Stream" Draggable Overlay beneath the bridge, winterization does not work either. In this case, I believe that it has never been implemented in the first case. Might be worth adding for future VASL versions.

The greater issue, and IMHO worth adressing for VASL v6.6.7, is that winterization does not work for overlays placed via the Drag&Drop method.

Nice to hear from you. Quite a bit of concern around the forum about your absence. A thread was even started about it.

Correct.

Not gonna happen for 667. Not because it isn't worth doing (it most certainly is) but because of the amount and type of work that needs to be done.

I have added this to our issues list. Small comfort for you . . . it won't make 667 or 668 (bug fixes) so I will target 669 due in Fall 2024.

I am dabbling with J212 which features Pine Woods (B13.8).

It appears, that VASL has no Terrain Transformation that changes Woods to Pine Woods, while it does support Light Woods and the Jungle variants. The missing support for Pine Woods affects LOS, i.e. the LOS-tool cannot factor in the added height of Pine Woods as a LOS Obstacle.

I admit that Pine Woods come up rarely, but maybe support for this can be implemented rather easily for VASL v6.6.7 as the code probably does not need much more (what do I know...?) than something like:

If Woods = Pine Woods, then LOS Obstacle (not 1 but) 2 Levels.

See this thread: http://www.gamesquad.com/forums/index.php?threads/all-woods-are-two-levels.184206/

From a los perspective, is there any reason why Light Jungle does not do the job? No change to the visual image and los treats LJ as 2 level.

If the current Light Jungle transformation works as Pine Woods, then I can easily add a option on the Terrain SSR dialog that says Pine Wood and simply implements the existing LJ transform. I can understand the value of having an explicit PW option rather than requiring people to know to use the LJ option.

Sounds like a simple solution. Well done you.

In a way, this might work. But invoking PTO including "Light Jungle" would also turn Orchards into Palm Trees - and the latter are always in season, I think.

In J212, Orchards are out of Season. So, while the "Light Jungle" trick would fix the "Pine Trees", it would create the new problem of turning out of season Orchards into (in season) Palm trees. From an aesthetic viewpoint, the Palm tree artwork would be inappropriate as well.

I probably shouldn't speak for Doug, but I interpret what he is saying as basically implementing "Pine Woods" as an alias for "Light Jungle."

While I am at it...

Another proposal for VASL v6.6.7:

There are CVP counters somewhere in VASL with a + and - button allowing to increase/decrease the count, to which a text label can be added.

There is also a Draggable Overlay of the same functionality, however without a nationality color background, which is handy since the transparent background allows it to be used independently from nationality. Possibly, this Draggable Overlay was part of some lesser known Extension - I am not sure.

26898

Here now comes the proposal for a little new handy gadget:

At times VC specify that one side must Control more buildings or building locations than the opponent. Say, that there are 50 Building Locations and the Defender starts the game in Control of 40, while the 10 that remain are Uncontrolled by either side.

So far, I use two of these labels: "US # Locations Controlled" and "German # Locations Controlled" with the count of 40 and 0 in our example.

It would be handy to have a Draggable overlay that displays two numbers in one Draggable overlay. When clicking "-", the count should drop from 40 to 39 AND automatically raise the other number from 0 to 1, i.e. lower the first number while raising the second or vice versa.

Such an overlay would be superior than using two for the purpose.

I believe that you can invoke "PTO terrain including Light Jungle" but you cannot invoke merely "Light Jungle".

As PTO terrain involves more terrain changes that merely (Light) Jungle, this would not completely address the problem: Woods turning into Light Jungle are treated as a Level 2 obstacle when drawing LOS, all right. But Orchards would be turned into Palm Trees, which are always in season. If you have a scenario with Pine Woods and out of season Orchards (as J212), out of season Orchards might hinder LOS from a higher level passing through them while Palm Trees would block LOS.

This is why invoking "PTO terrain including Light Jungle" can only fix the LOS Tool treatment in some, but not in all cases. And this is why a "Pine Woods" checkbox would help. For example for J212.

Yes, I can create a Pine Woods button/checkbox/dodad and have it only do the Woods to Light Jungle part of the PTO Light Jungle transform. That should be quite simple. So, still well done me!

Further discussion on a CVP/VP counter counter continues in this thread:

I am pretty sure it was done as an extension. I have no recall of it as a counter in VASL itself. And certainly don't know why/how it would have disappeared if it had been. I would prefer (1) finding the extension and (2) using the casbin as options before creating a dedicated label counter such as you suggest. But if someone else wants to do it that's fine with me.

Delving into it, I believe it was

OBA_CVP_Aids v1.0.mdx

I cannot remember when and where it turned up, but as it has the file-extension .mdx, it seems to be pretty old. Neither do I know, who the author is. In all likelyhood, it was posted here in the forum at some point in time.

I will send it to you by email.

Cheers,
