I was wondering if anyone knows if we can mod the pictures of the units, so instead of an old picture of a soldier we could replace it with a unit insignia/flag of some sort?

Yes Sir, it can be done, though quite a bit of work. You have to make sure and identify each unit correctly to make sure none of the unit mapping in the OOB get's messed up.
I know there are unit graphics mods out there already for some/most of the games, so do a search on the web before you get rolling on any work.

I'll do another search, and have a look at the files. I'd also need a good resource for unit flags/insignia. I'm sure it's out there. I just thought it woudl be a good way of identifying units on the battlefield, even with FOW on.
