if you haven't been to tournaments, you would be off put reading this thread. I have been to many tournaments all over, and, they are very friendly and welcoming. most of this stuff never comes up. I have never seen a mulligan by rule, btw.
This bears repeating. I alluded to it earlier, but for my part in starting the dice aside (holy cow, sorry again, forgot that was a flame war inducer) especially I'll repeat it: Every ASL tournament I've been to (~10) has been a great experience and virtually all ASLers are actually great fun to play the actual game with. We might have differing ideals, but most of us are still gonna "love the ASL we're with."

Somehow being in a room full of over aged, sweaty ASLer geeks without strong ventilation does not seem attractive.
All for ventilation but when it's 18 degrees outside and I need a scarf and coat on to play, it's not fun anymore!

You might have a biaised view of people playing ASL.
Indeed. The ASL tournaments I attend (well, not Grenadier...) is full of attractive young women.

Of course, I am not stupid enough to reveal where and when these are held, because then all you over aged, sweaty ASLer geeks would stampede the place and ruin the events. :D

I disagree. I think most players want a fair contest...
Steve
Agree. Winning is one thing, being competitive can be another matter entirely. From my experience most everyone I've run across strives to be comptetitive and meanwhile realizes winning isn't the end all.

Oh Battle School Dice, I need you constantly in my life.
For distant adventures in scenarios dark
And questions about the the ASLRB life
And whether the 75LL is worse than their bark
Your disappearance would surely cause Strife.

Oh Battle School Dice, without you I would be lost.
And so I pray to the small gods of Orgs Random
In the hope that occasionally you may be in tandem
And rescue me from Plevanator fandom
And Bishops who shouldn't be crossed.

Blazin' a trail of destruction
with an MA immune to malfunction,
our hero, a wily old Salt,
spun his turret about, cried "Halt!"

"Gunner, load APCR," he barked.
"Impossible," his oppo' remarked.
"Improbable," our grizzled vet corrected.
"Double ones," his victim moaned, dejected.
"Spare me a repeat of the A.1 writ."
"Roll that damn blue die, and be done with it!"

I think the real question is when is the BattleSchool precision icosahedron coming out?

...precision icosahedron
While not precision, these 55mm, sequential, 20-sided dice are easy to use (and read) when tracking MP expenditures. These beer-resistant icosahedrons work equally well in low light, walk-in refrigerators, and on uneven surfaces.

Had ASL gone with a percentile system based on the interplay of two d10s, we may have been spared a few flame wars over the merits of precision d6, the IIFT, and CTC. But I doubt it.

What a bunch of incubator babies!
Steve
OMG. I haven’t heard that phrase since I was a kid and it brings back fond memories.

For some reason my oldest brother was convinced he was an incubator baby. My parents would tease him about it, “Shoulda left you in the incubator...” and his nickname was Incubator Baby for years.

Bollocks.

[snip]

As for dice-sharing ... bollocks to that, too. I carry plenty of spare dice with me when I go to a tournament. Forgot to bring your own? I'll happily loan you a pair. You want to roll my dice? You can choke and die.

Why is this a problem? I would always prefer to roll the same dice as my opponent, and probably the majority of my games have gone that way. I'm surprised anyone would have a problem with this.
