nice easy day today:
  1. Spent some time looking at the eASL Open scenarios and realised I have not played a single one before so that's going to be a great deal of fun for me and almost certainly for my opponents
  2. Played one of my Close Assault Round 2 spoiler games (we're just short of the magic 24 entrants so I'm playing additional games to avoid people having to play each other more than once. Anther person I've not played before and another game that underlines how much enjoyment this game gives me.
  3. Working on another Round 2 game setup and testing out actually thinking about the games these days ahead of time.
  4. Studying Raff's Rules for Friday Night Fights, another scenario I've never played before. Gradually I'm getting my playing percentage of stuff i won up there, although many of the eASLOpen scenarios are from stuff I don't own and some I just don' see myself purchasing.
  5. Just generally enjoying the chance to play ASL a lot more frequently than I have been able to for a long time.

From a scan, I printed out overlay X14 to replace my damaged one. I remembered that I received a loose X20 a while back from MMP with some product. I compared it to my current one and I saw that the newer one is improved. X20 has a steeple cross. The new version has a black dot in the steeple cross for LOS checks. The old one does not. So I replaced X20 as well.

Finally opened the last WO pack. I read and scanned the scenarios. I put WO51 on my play list. Map 93 is in my map portfolio (which will soon reach its maximum of 98 maps).

Ordered Rivers to the Reich as a monthly gift for myself. Last month is The Chosin Few from CH, it's still on the way.
Also read a PDF file titled Scenario Design Science or Art? by Steven C. Swann.

I didn't choose ASL, it chose me.
True for me.

A friend had to almost drag me to an introduction to the game, I didn't really feel like learning another game at the time ('81 I think).
It was pretty basic: grab 3 counters from a bag and another guy would explain what they do, what the numbers mean.
Just putting those counters (a squad, MMG, and a truck) down on board 4 was all it took, I was hooked.

The last week has been frenetic, ASL wise. Decided to seriously invest time, sweat and effort into running short form online tournaments that are something a bit different from the usual. But I also wanted to incorporate this into my own hobby interests and future plans, particularly when I move to full retirement mode and can dedicate time to my hobbies. So new discord server of my very own purely for my tournaments and my particular hobby experiences, new graphics, and hopefully a lot more ASL and general gaming content on various platforms. I even managed to get three tournament games in, plus one more of the Beyond the Beachhead playthrough done, so a very productive week despite the no notice time pressures that pretty much kickstarted the whole endeavour. We'll see how it foes but I did notice that my love for playing the game is if anything stronger now.

Played my buddy Bryan Vieages in SoF3 The Grim Reaper's Lair. Got in 2 turns this evening, will pick it up again in 2 weeks.

I'm putting together a second set of counters. For the last week, I've been punching and trimming the Axis Minors and said to myself, "Self, do all these guns need to be punched?" This led me to do a search on the Scenario Archive.

I searched each gun and used the In My Collection criteria to see if I have any scenarios that use these. If they don't then I won't add them to the set.
Green, the gun is in at least one scenario, Orange, no scenario. I should have done this with the vehicles and the Allied Minors. I might go back and do that. It was a bit of work.
