Accepted and sent an email request to a fellow to play Operation Turnscrew but somehow I got turn screwed when I clicked on there name and sent it to the wrong person! LOL

Luckily it was a ASL'er so the embarrassment was not totally redfaced.

Today I took down scenario SF9 First Do No Harm...put away the counters and mapsheet. We hesitantly declared it a Japanese skulking win on turn 6 as I had fortified both the ground and upper levels of both stairwell hexes in the hospital and had sufficient troops on all three levels (cellars) to run out the clock...most likely.

Then I spent time getting ready for our next scenario SF11 Ridgway's Mission by setting up the map and pulling the counters...while watching video of the 80th anniversary parade of vehicles through village of Sainte Mere Eglise and looking over the map at the same time. Clubby will be the Americans while Jim and I will be the Germans.

Semper Fi!

Finally got to the point where I could start combining the multiple overlays in the TotR scenarios into single Scenario-Specific Overlays that can be called through the Terrain Modifications dialog. Here's a section of the one for Scenario 290 Last Train to Leningrad. There's three separate overlays in this area, and believe me, it looks nicer to put them all together into one.

29066

Now just got 16 more TotR scenarios to do...

Edit - I couldn't find anything in Chapter B that covers situations like what's in G17 above (ie, that the paved road should continue from H16 through to F17).

Tom,

Wow, this is really great news! This should really help facilitate a much better ability to get a TotR scenario up and running!

Also, technically, not all of the TotR scenarios use multiple linking overlays, so I think that you may only need to do this for 10 more scenario. (insert "I'm a dick" emoji here). ;)

Relative to the G17 GLRR-Xing from F17 and H16, the rule reference is B32.4 & B32.41:

"B32.4 RR CROSSINGS: A road that runs up to a RR hex and continues beyond it in an adjacent non-RR hex crosses the RR via one of the four types of RR Crossings (RR-Xing) in 32.41-.44. A unit entering a RR-Xing via a road hexside may elect to pay the normal non-RR-hexside COT rather than use the road [EXC: ElRR-Xing and SuRR-Xing (32.43-.44)].

B32.41 GROUND LEVEL RR CROSSING: In a GLRR-Xing, the RR and the road are both at ground level. A unit crossing a road hexside may enter at the normal road rate."

This is why none of TotR scenarios have an SSR that designates a RR-Xing, as they are automatically in existence.

Thanks again!

Bill

PS If you are looking to create more linked overlays, Darrell Anderson, Tom Morin, Ted Wilcox, Sean Deller and I currently have 11 scenarios in playtest waiting for TotR boards & overlays that use linked RR overlays. :)

re: the above VASL SSO (Scenario-Specific Overlay). I don't know if there's any issue here, but figured I'd mention it. Here's the original hex I19 and the way I drew the VASL RR Crossing:
29074 29075

Let's assume the rail cars aren't there in I19, so it's just a RR crossing hex. In the SSO (at right), one could drive a vehicle from J19 (CA:6) into I19 and then H18 without needing to change VCA. Is that possible in the normal board? Or does that roundabout mean you somehow need to change VCA in order to drive from J19 to I19 to H18?

Tom,

The model of the GLRR-Xing looks correct to me based on the wording in B32.4 & B32.41.

So, is there now just one scenario specific overlay that joins the River overlay with the single RR overlay?

Finally opened my Winter Offensive 2024 pack. I read and scanned the scenarios. I picked the one with the Canadians to add to my To Play list. I admired the deluxe factory boards. I stored everything.

Completed two logs in two different scenarios (Gavin Take and Commando Schenke both on turn 2).

Purchasing British units for the upcoming CG for Operation Turnscrew with Clubby and then set the Tommies up.

Looks to be great fun.
We'll see how much fun you're having when you run into my defense. 😂
