Does the firelane cancellation (A9.223) occur before or after the firelane attacks a unit entering the manning squad's hex? Does entry into the hex (and the creation of a TPBF opportunity) immediately cancel the firelane before the firelane attack is rolled?

The fire lane is cancelled before any attack FL attack vs the moving unit since the FL has no FP in the firing unit's location.

A9.22
A Fire Lane Residual FP counter exerts a unique form of Residual FP in its Location, and in every same-level (B.5) Location of the Fire Lane Hex Grain between that counter and the MG, that is within the MG's Normal Range and in the LOS of its manning Infantry ...

A9.223
Fire Lane must be cancelled [...] even if the unit entering the MG's hex does so across the hexside of the Fire Lane.

The FL is operative is the firing unit's location per A9.22. Clearly cancelled if entered from a different hexside without any FL effect. Entering through the FL hexside(s) (for alternate grain) is contradictory.

I believe the Fire Lane is cancelled as soon as the enemy enters the Location.

so......the MG hex is not included in the Firelane. right?

also, TPBF is required when a unit enters the MG hex which cancels the Firelane immediately.

If one uses that interpretation that only hexes between the FL counter and the MG are included there would be no FL effect in the hex with the FL counter either.

What is the point of 9.22 stating that the FL exerts RFP in the same location as the unit?
Where does it say that?

A9.22:
"A Fire Lane Residual FP counter exerts a unique form of Residual FP in its Location, and in every same-level (B.5) Location of the Fire Lane Hex Grain between that counter and the MG, that is within the MG’s Normal Range and in the LOS of its manning Infantry (when tracing their LOS to the hex center dot)."

A Fire Lane Residual FP counter exerts a unique form of Residual FP in its Location (its is referring to FL RFP counter and not the weapon itself)

ah ... the ambiguity of its location ... it refers to the FL counter, not the unit ...
