Looks like CCP intends to make wormhole space a dangerous and interesting place. Everyone who has encountered the sleepers on the test server has come away telling stories of the difficulty of dealing with them.
Apparently, their technology is far superior to any of the four races. They can hit hard, take a ton of punishment, fight smart, and can use electronic warfare.
Check out this battle which saw a small gang (a fairly powerful one) go toe to toe with some sleepers. Despite all the nice toys the gang brought to the table, the sleepers lay down the law.

One of the ships involved was a Nyx mothership, and there aren't too many things going to stand in front of a Nyx for very long.
