Re: RIP Hall of Famer Bob Feller...

Pet peeve: people die; gallstones are passed.
Gallstones? Gallstones? Your Canadian - at least roll with pucks are passed... :p

And definition #2 on Webster's is:
a : to go away : depart b : die —often used with on

No mention of Gallstones at all at Webster's :D

Bullet Bob also had five campaign ribbons and eight battle stars whilst serving on the Alabama in WWII.

He is a good Iowa boy as well, born in Van Meter, IA. Amongst his many nicknames: "The Heater from Van Meter". :)

Now that's a leg kick...

Truly an all-time great and good ambassador for the game overall. Was he the oldest living HOFer when he passed?
Looks like another loser that pitched for CLE. :p

Seriously though, he seemed like a real good guy all around. Only pitcher to pitch an opening day no-hitter IIRC.

I think he was in charge of an AA Gun Section(20s & 40s).
The local right-wing-talk-radio station guys interviewed him a bunch of times, usually during Spring Training. Bob was always great! :smoke:

During the Baseball Players Strike in 1981, the All Star Game was played at Cleveland Municipal Stadium(Muny) using the Strat-O-Matic Baseball game. The game was set up at Home Plate with the players sitting the Batter's Boxes. Bob Feller, in his Cleveland uniform, threw out the 1st dice and helped coach the AL to a 15 to 2 drubbing.:cool::cool::cool::cool:

They don't make 'em like that anymore.:salute:
RIP Bob

They won in 48!
When he retired, he had the most Walks and HBP(100 MPH Fastball gotta hurt).
He said his strength came from bailing hay and milking cows. You probably got enough strength for a 200-300 MPH Fastball. :p

Hey, Bullet Bob actually won one in '48. So he was actually a WINNER from Cleveland. They said it wasn't possible! Just think how good Feller was to lead Cleveland of all places to the promised land? If that's not an open and shut case for Feller as the greatest righty of all time, I'm not sure what it is... :p

I always liked the stories that some sports TV shows had in the early 1970s about B-ball players before the invention of TV.

Bob Feller was one of the best stories they showed.

Tomorrow's World

I used to love this show when I was a kid. The presenter, Raymond Baxter, was a Spitfire pilot in WWII.

Walter Johnson would pitch all innings of a double-header then kick 'the mouth' Feller's ass.
