Version 1.0 of the Normandy mod has been completed and is almost ready for downloading.

It's been sent off to Australia for uploading and will be available in a day or so.

In the meantime, here are a few screenshots to show you what to expect. I've departed from my usual procedure and included a couple with hexes and contours turned on (shudder).

The mod for Panzer Campaigns Normandy is now available for downloading.

This is the first in the West Front series ( West Front 1.0 / Normandy 1.0) and features large and small textured 2D maps with fortification symbols integrated into the map and repainted vegetation and buildings.

Here are a few new images:

This mod would not have been possible without Volcano Man's and Jison's spectacular work.

To install the mod, start with a clean install of HPS Normandy with the latest patch, then add the latest Volcano Man Normandy mod, then add the latest Jison Normandy mod, then add my mod.

For the mod to work properly, the installation has to be done in exactly that order.

The latest HPS patches can be found here:

(you'll need to register but it's no big deal)

I'd like to thank John Merriman for explaining the underlying logic of French roof colors to me. North of the Occitan line (north of the line they speak the French you learn in school, south of the line they often speak Langue d'Oc) roofs tend to be grey (e.g. Paris and especially Normandy), south of the Occitan line roofs tend to be red. So if I ever mod a Panzer Campaigns game on Anvil/Dragon, expect a lot of shades of brown and dusky rose simulating clay roof tiles seen from above. Belgium is another story: Bruges has red roofs, and any map that includes Paris, northern France, and Belgium (like France 1914 or France 1940) will be forced to make uncomfortable compromises. Fortunately we're only dealing with Normandy here, and the dominant roof color is very grey.

While I was making the screenshots I noticed a few things that were supposed to be in version 1.0 but didn't quite make it, so expect the first update sometime next week.

The latest update is up and available for downloading. The new update version is 1.4, and the earlier posts have been adjusted to reflect this.

And there will be some new screenshots (and repair work done on the old ones) when I get home after the long weekend.

The latest version of the Normandy mod is now available for downloading.

It includes some unit art that had gotten left out of the initial release, corrects some errors that had crept in (SS HQ units now have the correct HQ symbol instead of the engineer symbol), and updates some of the older unit art (Canadian paratroopers have lost their halo).

Here are some new screenshots of the current state of the mod:

The latest version of the Normandy mod (1.6) is now available for downloading.

The new version features a darker repaint of the SS unit counters. They are now as close to black as I can get them without being completely illegible.

The Normandy mod can be downloaded from Task Force Echo Four:

I'd like to extend a huge thank you to the BigRedOne for giving my mods a new home.

The updates since 1.06 include things like sidebox art taken from the actual maps that were used to plan the invasion, changes to some of the sound files, and a reworking of the images for the higher HQ units on the German side.

Also, be sure to visit Scenario Design Center for the unit movement sounds which now work with the new version of the game engine.

I've lightened the streams and darkend the rivers to make it a bit more apparent what you can and can't cross without a bridge. This feature will get worked into all my other mods when I do the next round of updates (there were two rounds in March).

For this mod only, I've reworked the colors of the secondary roads and trails. The predominant background color of Normandy is different from the other games because of all the fields and bocage.

I've also come up with a new desktop icon, the star in a circle that was supposed to keep the Allied air forces from bombing their own troops. To use it, right-click on the exe. application in the game folder that launches the game. From the drop-down menu select create shortcut . Move the shortcut to your desktop, usually done by reducing rather than minimizing the screen you're on and dragging the shortcut onto your desktop. Once it's on your desktop, right click on the shortcut, select change icon from the screen that pops up, click on browse and navigate to where you have the new icon (in the Normandy game folder if you installed the mod). Select it, and don't forget to click on the 'apply icon' button at the bottom of the menu. You'll probably want to rename the shortcut icon to give it a less dorky name.
