Stalingrad, Manila, Budapest, Arnhem, all of them covered by HASL's. Now it's time for Berlin to have a HASL. Thoughts? Ideas? Anything in the pipeline?

I think the centerpiece of a HASL product is the map, real terrain which is fought over again and again until "vfm" is reached. Ideally there is attack and counter-attack, and a good historical narrative to the struggle, followed by refreshments. Back-and-forth battles tend to be over key terrain so a successful HASL needs a map that covers the key terrain but is still manageable and "fott". What sort of a list do we have of suitable "fott" non-urban battles do we have?

* vfm - value for money
** fott - fits on the table

Although not liked by many CH has a Berlin module or should I say modules out, but if that’s what you want check it out, also for late war fighting against the odds as the Germans get a copy of LCP ‘s Konigsberg .

Okinawa comes to mind
I think some "Sugar Loaf Hill" playtesting is ongoing, which is covered somewhere in this forum. Then there is "Peleliu" in the making, and hopefully "Kohima".

I am interested in these in the following order: Kohima, Peleliu, Sugar Loaf Hill.

What I hope to find in Kohima, should it see the light of day, is fighting between British and Japanese, where the firepower difference is not as marked comparted to late war Americans attacking Japapanese which have to be holed up at least as deep as 2 feet beneath the boards to survive for any length of time.

I would love Berlin down the line but how about some more PTO HASLs in non-urban environments? Burma and India some to mind along with important choke points on the Kokoda Trail in New Guinea. I'd be very interested in those, I'm going to be 'city-ed out' after going through Twilight of the Reich and WO Bonus Pack #15, they overloaded us with urban madness recently, after that it is time for the PTO or early war ETO...

YES, Kohima would be the HASL I'd be very excited about. The CBI theater offers many options for great scenarios, I'll be looking to get more of them into Dispatches in the not too distant future.

"Seelöwe" Ian Daglish's Opus.
Last I heard, it had been passed to MMP. I know it is not Historical, maybe not even a HASL. But it would be a different breed than Panthers and Tigers against Shermans and Fireflys.

If you ask me, I think we have enough urban HASLs. Why not non-urban HASLs instead?

von Marwitz
Yeah, really. Smaller HASL's with maybe a village or not like Singling, Hell's Corner and SF or anything Chapter Zish

I'm all for HASLs, but agree that maybe for now we have enough urban battles.

I'm rooting for a 'hybrid-HASL' - using both existing geoboards and at least a 1/2 historical geoboard. Lots of good subjects here.

So something like the only parachute brigade in the Indian Army fighting off a Japanese advance through the jungles of India? Would that make a good HASL with geoboards used in the battles for the outlying areas?

Yeah, the Historical study format like Watchtower and Veritable in a thin box. I loved that format and wished they'd have kept churning them out.
