The final conservative hypocrisy: Trump wants the Democrats to be nicey-nice (unlike the tea party) as the debt limit fast approaches

Ah, remember when Obama was President and the Republicans/tea party jerks would threaten to shut down the government by not passing a debt increase until he caved into their demands.

Now, Republicans want the Democrats to quietly raise the debt limits.

Republicans are a bunch of fuckers aren't they?

The really ironic thing is that the republicans, even when they had a majority, needed democrat votes to pass an increase while they controlled the senate, the house, and the presidency. They cannot get anything done by themselves even when they control everything! Incompetence is what the republicans vote for, and its the government they deserve. Fortunately, the rest of us deserve better, else nothing would ever be done.

One of the perplexities of the republican party is their strange claim (I won't call it belief anymore as I don't think they believe anything, they take positions to improve power) of fiscal responsibility. It should be obvious to anyone that they have none. And I say that as someone that feel that deficits are okay, even useful. But they simply throw money away, and are proud of it because they do it in a way to hurt most Americans.

Really strange shit, to echo George W. Bush's words. Anyone that actually believed in fiscal conservatism would be working for the democrats to attempt to find real answers that don't involve cutting taxes.

US budget deficit jumps 23.1% over last year as debt crisis looms

I remember when conservatives used to post on here during the Obama administration. Bemoaning how Obama had "accumulated more debt than the rest of the presidents combined." Oh, the (chickenshit) GOP'ers loved that one, and it was probably even true, though hardly his fault.

But now, with record deficits (due to GOP tax cuts) these same chickenshit posters have disappeared.

Meanwhile, on a more adult level, Nancy Pelosi says she wants the debt ceiling addressed early and quickly. What a change from the GOP which used the debt ceiling as a weapon of war against Obama.

Democrats prove themselves to be the adults again and again. But they care about good governance.

Whatever about a half or full century ago, the GoP's talk about fiscal responsibility since Reagan has really been about cutting support for the "undeserving" (IE all) poor, so the rich can keep more of their loot.

The GOP has never been for the people. They're errand-boys for their paymasters; the wealthy and the corporations.

It will be interesting to see if under the 2001/2003 and 2017 tax cuts this country is bankrupted.

Too bad those of us for real fiscal responsibility, who voted against the Republicans time and time again and opposed their tax cuts, have to be dragged down by the idiots who did.

The tyranny of the minority. Billionaires paying millionairs to tell elderly white people that minimum wage employed were living the good life so let's cut taxes on the wealthy to show them who's boss.

That another thing, a lot of wealth is made in this country by underpaying people for necessities of life, causing government to subsidize private wealth... food stamps, section 8 housing, medicaid.

A good reason for progressive tax rates.

I got a great laugh over this. Mulveney shut the government down when the debt ceiling needed increased four years ago; and now he's negotiated a deal so that his regime won't have to deal with spending at all! Republicans have no shame, but at least this is one of the funnier times. If a democrat holds the white house in 2021, when this deal conveniently expires, I bet Mulveney is on the lead to shut government down again in a search for "fiscal responsibility". No shame over their hypocrisy at all.

Trump, congressional leaders clinch sweeping deal on budget and debt ceiling

Yup. Forgot about this thread. But I did note that Pelosi today played nicey-nice, unlike the GOP vs. Obama, and did not play games with the debt ceiling.

This is a thread about policy. You know a Trump voter won't come within mile of it.

50/50 that tRUMP scuttles this deal. GOP Senators are already telling him not to approve it as it doesn't cut enough.

Although this points out that suspending the debt ceiling will last through Trump's and McConnell's re-election campaign. I can't say the Democrats are too serious at this point either, about deficit reduction.

I would campaign on going to back to the Clinton era tax structure, cutting military significantly and maintain domestic spending. I would never win.

I wouldn't vote for you :). It is the reason that I never voted for Bill Clinton.

I think there has to be a compromise, as Jim has said, both sides feel the pain and have skin in the game as well.

"A simple analysis of what Treasury reported shows that virtually the entire deficit increase was because the (GOP) tax cut enacted in December (2017) reduced revenues substantially."

So, the GOP's plan to line the pockets of the uber-rich is why we have these now exploding deficits. And, we'll see the GOP go after 'entitlements' again, (for the poor naturally) to correct the deficit that they'll claim to have been caused by 'overspending'. This administration (and the Bush administration) has overseen one of the largest transfers of wealth from the poor to the rich in our history.

Seriously, how do such people sleep at night?

What tax rate are you willing to suffer and what programs are you willing to gut?

I would be willing to suffer much more than you, and I am willing to gut the military to France size.

And Jim is not willing to compromise at all. He says he is, but it's a sham as all republican "fiscal responsibility" reforms are. They are just another way to protect the rich and take from the middle class.

It has been their plan for two decades.

They sleep peacefully because they know they have a fan base that will believe anything they say. Nothing can stop them except the old white people dying, hence severe gerrymandering to hold onto as much as they can for as long as they can.
