I went up with Randy Knight, Doctor Death and a third I do not recall one year. Great time and the sights were impressive on, I believe it was St. Catherine Street. The city didn't look bad either.

Yes, it was maybe in 1998, during the ten years that I ran the Montreal ASL Festival. Randy won it that year.

The location for the 2016 CASLO is not downtown, it is in the suburbs; within a 20 to 30 minute commute.

I would really like to attend this, the only problem is that it is two weeks after the "Stack Académie" wargaming convention... Can't really do both. This is going to be a tough decision.

Maybe a compromise is in order. Spend a day a Stack Academie, and a day or two at the CASLO.

I've sent in my registration for CASLO.

Figuring out the logistics part now. I was wondering if there is any possibility of sharing a room with someone? That's if the rooms have two beds of course. My wife says I have a tendency to steal the sheets and wouldn't want to impose that on anyone else!

Here is the scenario list for CASLO XX.

This is the “bare bones” list of the scenarios for CASLO XX. A more detailed version showing required maps, overlays, etc., will be available by the end of February. For pre-registered players, there will also be scenario guides (like the Ottawa team did in 2015)

Round 1E is the early start round at 10 AM on Friday. Only pre-registered players can play in this round. I plan to pair these players in advance, then have them choose their scenario and sides before the tournament.

Round 1E includes a desert scenario. If a pre-registered player strongly desires to play this scenario at the cost of giving up other scenario choices, let me know. I will pair players who both desire this scenario.

Round 1 includes a night scenario. If any player strongly desires to play this scenario at the cost of giving up other scenario choices, let me know in advance or on site before the pairings. I will pair players who both desire this scenario.

Several scenarios use BFP counters or boards. One scenario uses the FrF A board. I will have photocopies of these to use at the tournament.

Pardon my ignorance, but how exactly is scenario choice decided? Are games randomly assigned?

Pardon my ignorance, but how exactly is scenario choice decided? Are games randomly assigned?
You will receive a tournament information package that includes that information and plenty more. Here is the applicable section that answers your question.

Players choose scenarios from the Scenario List for each round. No exceptions, other than extenuating circumstances with the TD’s approval, are permitted. Each player will secretly pick their top three selections ranked as 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Upon revealing the choices to your opponent, scenario matches are determined (i.e.: scenarios that you both picked). Of the scenarios that are matches, the one with the lower Rank Average (RA), closest to the first choice, is the scenario to be played. In case of a tie, both players will make a DR. The player having the lowest DR has the choice of the tied scenarios.

EXAMPLE: Player A picks scenarios X1, X2 and X3 as his 1st, 2nd and 3rd choices. Player B picks X3, X4 and X2 as his 1st, 2nd and 3rd choices. X4 and X1 are not considered since they are not a match. X3 has a lower RA of 2 [(1+3/2=2] as opposed to X2 which has a RA of 2.5 [(2+3)/ 2=2.5]. X3 is the scenario these players will play in this round.

Both players choose sides secretly. A player may secretly choose to not pick a side thus negating any Play Balance provisions. If both players chose the same side, both players make a dr. The player with the lowest dr receives the side for which he bid and gives his opponent the printed Play Balance. If neither player chooses a side, they make a dr and the player with the lower dr chooses side with no Play Balance given.
