If you had to pick just the top three, which sci-fi filmes would make your list?

Blade Runner
Aliens
The Day the Earth Stood Still (NOT the remake).

I was going to put District 9 on the list, but I want to wait and reflect on it a bit before I give it top 3 status.

Hmmm... What are yours Don?

In no particular order
1. Robo Jox
2. Star Wars (the older/first three movies)
3. Alien, D9, and the Alien movie with the Marines in that compound.

It's a very hard choice for me. But I would say these make my top 3 list:

Alien
Blade Runner
The Thing

Blade Runner
The Fifth Element
Alien

But boy, some of the other choices given/presented are good ones too.

No honorable mentions so far for....I can think the music...I can think the actor (Richard Dreyfuss) and I can think the place (Pikes Peak)...and they are all drawn to it..

Ah yes, Close Encounters of the Third Kind...I think....

It was hard for me not to include 2001: A Space Odyessy on that list, as it is an iconic film that is still unsurpassed in some respects. And I suppose I should adjust my list as follows:

Alien
Blade Runner
Planet of the Apes

Honorable mention:

2001: A Space Odyssey
The Thing

1. Dune (Lynch's)
2. Old Star Wars Trilogy
3. Terminator

Isn't it funny-the one version of Dune is a BARKER..WOOF!

But the other, relatively close to the book, and great great dialogue/FX...wow....

Forgot about that one in my vote. But I wouldn't change it, just give it honorable mention...

1. Alien
2. Blade Runner
3. War of the Worlds (the 1953 George Pal version)

Of course, once Avatar comes out we'll have to revise our lists....:)

1. Dune (Lynch - though I loved the series as well)
2. Logan's Run
3. Invasion of the Body snatchers (50's verison)

Loved Star Wars - but its more fantasy than sci fi to me. similarly Alien is more horror than sci fi. YMMV.

Hi
Star Wars (even though they are two trilogies now). My favourite out of all of them is actually Episode 1 (which I feel is rather underrated but still everyone has their own opinion) in a way because it obviously starts to explain how the war began and the stories then gradually get darker and darker in tone. Episode 4 is a very close second though as it contains a lot of superb action sequences.

I think as epitomizing the genre it has to be 2001, but it's not what I have enjoyed the most over the years.

I'll add the first Matrix movie, because I didn't see it on any other list. If they had only made the one, it would be an all-time classic. Unfortunately the other two, really diluted that story for me.
