A couple that were under consideration for The Word but didn't make the cut. I thought I would throw them out there in case the Inspiration Elf doesn't come through for me today.

It doesn't really mean land lover rather it is a derisive term for a clumsy or inexperienced sailor.
Lol I was going to say the boat rules were written by a bunch of landlubbers but decided to check it out first. The sailor didn't know what it really meant! What a landlubber!🙄🤣

I've always been a fanboy of the Hetzer, and the name meaning translated as "agitator". When I looked up agitator on an online dictionary, I got:
  1. a person who urges others to protest or rebel.
  2. an apparatus for stirring liquid.
So did the designers really mean to name their creation the "teaspoon"?
It wasn't the designers. "Hetzer" was a term coined by soldiers in the field. The term had briefly been used by the designer for a different prototype but was never applied to the final vehicle that bore the name.

The Germans called that vehicle, officially, the Jagdpanzer 38(t). Jagd = "hunting", panzer = "tank", (t) means Czech (Tschechisch in German), 38 the model type of Czech tank ( no doubt referencing the year 1938). It was a self-propelled anti-tank gun, which came out just after the Germans decided to change the name of their anti-tank units from Panzerabwehr ("armour defence") to Panzerjäger ("tank hunter") which they thought was more aggressive sounding. The Czech-built ČKD LT vz. 38 tank, designated Panzer 38(t) in German, provided the basic chassis.

The amount of abbreviations, acronyms and initialisms in Advanced Squad Leader is truly preternatural.
