So...
What are the books which you have read or which books would you recommend to the members of the ASL community? I'm not referring to the ASLRB or Journals /Annuals per se, rather the books which may have motivated you to learn more about WWII history or even inspired you to design a scenario. I only raise the subject because on more than one occasion within this forum I have heard references to some very interesting titles. 'Demolishing The Myth' by V. Zamulin comes to mind.

My interest in reading more about this conflict began at an early age with the old Ballentines History of The Violent Century series back in the early 70's. Their $1 price tag was well within the range of my 7th grade allowance. Since then a few of my favorites which should appeal to the ASL community:

Where The Iron Crosses Grow, by Robert Forczyk
Pegasus Bridge, by Stephen Ambrose
And just about everything in Osprey's campaign series

I can't wait to hear about the titles I left out!

Demolishing the Myth is a very good read.
you might consider in Stephen Ambrose reading that he did suffer and still does - a rather sticky scandal in plagiarizing others' works. From a purely learning about the events perspective, this is nothing at all. From an academic perspective, it is quite a bit more , and form a historical research perspective, it is akin to declaring him fit to have ben burned at the stake for heresy - 'cept he's already gone.

( Please note- I AM A HUGE FAN of Stephen Ambrose's works, I now own every single one of them. IT is worth noting for historical research that you will find yourself needing to understand some tidbits are called into question when any author does what Ambrose was found to have done even since his Master's Thesis. Then you are stuck with a nagging semi - requirement to verify them before using them for any purpose. That is a drag for both scenario designers and historiographers.)

There have been several good threads on this subject many times over the last 3 years - try looking at the " similar threads " tool and some of those lists - see if anything strikes your fancy.

Currently reading "Roll Me Over- An Infantryman´s WW2" from Raymond Gantter.
Giving you a good picture how it was...Refreshing pathos-free, without Hollywood-like action.
Nice little read.

Ok, for Russian front I would recommend this little lot.

Blood,Myth & Steel (SS Panzer Korps & XXXXVIII Pz Korps advance during Kursk) G.Nipe
Last Victory In Russia (II SS Pz Korps & the recapture of Kharkov Feb-March 1943) G.Nipe
Demolishing the Myth (Russian coverage of the Battle for Prokhorovka) V.Zamulyne
All 3 of David M Glantz' books on Stalingrad, makes a really good read.
Island Of Fire (battle for the Barrikady Gun Factory Stalingrad Nov 1942) J.Mark
Cholm J.Mark
Angriff (Stalingrad in pictures) J.Mark

A very small selection loads more, but those are what I feel you must have.

Finished reading 'September Hope' by John C. McManus just recently.

Really good book on the American part of Market-Garden and the Scheldt battle. Doesn't shy away from showing war like it was, bloody and messy.
