I have even heard people being in Angst with regard to a particular dice tower they thought could be abused by "placing" the dice inside and have them slide down without being tumbled and the pips being "preserved"...

Maybe, one should mandate transparent dice towers to cater to that?

The Romans had one famous example:

28872

But while in line with the tournament rules as written, there might be the issue of clattering.
Probably this would not be much different for plexiglass dice towers.

And we all know that the superior method to the dice tower - both in regards to randomness and noise - is the leather dice cup on a felt pad.

I have pimped my CLEAR dice tower's baffles with felt to reduce the clatter and have them land within the tower's catch bottom atop a rubber mouse pad. The tower can be disassembled for travel and might even meet TSA's standards for carry-on items. Perhaps, we will have to "stand-to" for an inspection of the ranks and their equipment. My back up weapon is the aforementioned leather dice cup (bought, of course, in Germany which assures quality).

Just preparing my 2025 calendar (curses...).

Does there happen to be any (rough) idea when Arnhem tournament would take place in 2025?

Well ... the real thing happened 17th through 26th September (1944). So I'm guessing that right there is your rough idea. :)

No word from Thursday until Sunday night?
So, what's the news from Arnhem?

Well, I won't spoil Andreas' probable post after his 13 hour car ride.

But, here are the pairings for rounds 2 through 6.

Good job Rich, ya lost to Melvin rd1 but clawed your way back up !
This tourney has some flair, they might have fought back in 44 in the very room the tourney is held, I dunno just cool.

Doubtful ... the hostel is to the north of the town centre (by a fair distance), and I don't think any British units managed to get into this area. (And of course the hostel wasn't even built back then ... I suspect this area was just mostly undeveloped woodlands.)

Most surprising to me is how many damn hills there are!

It's amazing to see how seriously the locals take their history, Every second building is flying a 1st Airborne Division flag. A staff member at the "Airborne at the Bridge" museum yesterday told me that it had been crazy busy, and they expect this coming week (the actual anniversary of the battle) to be even more so.

I'm off to Oosterbeek today to check out the museum there, and then it's off to Eindhoven....
