War has been declared! It is time to sign-up for the 2007 Gamesquad Chess Tournament!

Details

1) All games will be played via the It's Your Turn game server. IYT is a FREE game server that has a decent chess section. By conducting the games on this server, others can log-in and watch the tournament unfold. Also, the server automatically tracks time controls and notifies a player when their opponent has made a move, largely automating the whole process and thereby keeping the games moving.

2) The time-control for the games will be one move every 7 days. This should allow even the busiest of us to have time to participate.

If this sounds like fun, here is what you need to do to participate:

1) Go sign-up at It’s Your Turn. Once you have your User ID, post it here along with your chess rating (if any). Players who do not have a rating will be assigned a default rating of 1400.

2) When the players list is finalized, I will arrange the first round pairings and post them here.

3) Those players who are assigned the White pieces will be responsible for challenging their opponent via the IYT server.

4) Once your game is underway, post a note here notifying me of that fact.

5) When a game is completed, notify me and send along a copy of the PGN score.

6) When all games are completed, the next round pairing will begin.

That’s all there is to it. If you are interested in participating, just let me know on this thread!

Mount up! Time to go to war! :horse:

Any questions?

FYI a 'FAQ' for the new entrees re chess playing programs from the first tournament:

"Could this tourney be made to exclude chess playing software? I'd rather play a human than a program. Otherwise the one with the strongest sofware setup wins!"
This tourney will be governed by the standard set of correspondence chess rules which stipulate:

Quote:
Players are free to consult chess publications or literature in printed or electronic form. Any other form of assistance, either from another person or using chess engines within chess programs to make moves during the course of a game, is prohibited. --IECC Chess Guidelines

I'm signed up with IYT as kcdusk. i have played 2 games to knock the rust off and am 0-2.

I've been told the level of play at IYT isnt that good, so, i can only assume i have been brought down to the level of my idiotic opponants and beaton by their experience.

I am sure i will rise to the challenge offered here ... :)

I'm not rushing the start of the tourney (delaying the dacking i am sure to receive!), but i was wondering if there was an expected start date?

It'd just help me plan a few things. And to get my game face on :)

Sure, no problem. I don't expect the tourney to begin for at least another week. There are still a number of players that need to give me their IYT ID and rating before we can begin. Also, I want to put a copy of the tourney info in the announcement forum to see if anybody else is interested in joining. So you have at least until next Sunday.

Since it seems that no one else is interested in joining, I intend to start this tourney ASAP. Once Jim and ScorelessCoasts give me their IYT username and chess rating (if any), we can get started! Yipee!

Hello Scott.

Great to hear you held the horses back just enough to squeeze us in.
I thought XG was mostly just PC games and ASL... The chess component
is a well guarded secret here.
Only for the better that word is gradually leaking out.
Glad to be nine, er I mean yes not no in German, 9.
hahahaha...

LOL!

I am a crusader for chess. I believe a lot of wargamers are missing out on a great game because it doesn't have all the "chrome" found in modern wargames. So I do what I can to try and bring wargamers back into the chess fold...and I have the bruises to prove it! :D

I wrote an article to try and convince a few people---it created quite a firestorm over at The Wargamer about a year ago.

Fine article Scott. Very effective.
As part of the Crusade - renewal for wargamers to play Chess
i believe there should be a mention on the Tourney link for the Section
:)

I signed up as Johnno41, and havent played on it so my rating is 1400 ;)
As a clarification regarding ratings, I think Scott was looking for actual ratings from past tournament play and not necessarily any IYT ratings. At one point I made it to 2150 as a member of the USCF, but at IYT I don't think I have one. :)

Is that correct Scott?

I'll take whatever rating the player believes best reflects his playing strength. I just use it for the pairings table so the players are not unevenly matched.

I was intending to start the tourney today, but another person just signed on (.pars) and ScorelessCoasts is getting his computer repaired. I'll wait a few more days. Besides, we need to settle something:

How should we conduct the tourney? Swiss? How many rounds? Some other form (knock-out, round robin)?

Latest roster:

1)Scott Tortorice as Crusader Scott (rated 1753)
2)Lurker as lurker88 (rated 2075)
3)ScorelessCoasts
4)Mark as MOA (1400)
5)Jim as Johnno41 (1400)
6)Foggy as foggiest (1395)
7)2054172 as 1812 (1435)
8)KCDusk as KCDusk (1400)
9) Oberst_Hero as Oberst_Hero (1400)
10) .pars as .pars (1400)
