Hey Folks!

It's already October. I can't believe it either, but the changing color of the leaves is making an increasingly compelling case. Clearly, that means it's time to take a break from the process of battening down for a long winter to play some ASL.

Details:
Day:
10/10/20
Time: Whenever you please
Location: VASL, BGG, GS, Discord-- wherever we happen to congregate online

While most western observers were paying attention to the events of Operation OVERLORD, the Soviet Union kicked off BAGRATION, a general offensive through Belarus targeted at the destruction of German Army Group Center. A fair number of scenarios are set in the general time frame covered by BAGRATION, and the massive scale of the assault means that virtually any Eastern Front scenario taking place during that span is going to be related somehow. Here are some of my favorites:

Code:
Number Title Side1 Side2 #Hrs S1Win% S2Win% Publication Notes
ASL133 Block Busting in Bokruisk German Soviet 8.4 46.97% 53.03% Beyond Valor Also published as J8 in Journal #1. Win rates for both versions combined.
ASL134 Counterattack on the Vistula Soviet German 7.5 58.33% 41.67% Beyond Valor Also published as A21 in Annual '90
AP11 Swamp Cats German Soviet 8.9 57.01% 42.99% Action Pack 2
AP70 Sons of Slava German Soviet 6.6 60.78% 39.22% Action Pack 7 Recommend Soviet balance
J24 Smashing the 3rd Soviet German 9.9 46.22% 53.78% Journal #2
J56 A Burnt Out Case German Soviet 4.2 37.74% 62.26% Journal #3 Recommend German balance
J98 Lend-Lease Attack German Soviet 2.7 40.00% 60.00% Journal #6 Recommend German balance
T2 The Puma Prowls Soviet German 2.1 47.01% 52.99% Classic ASL Also published in The General Vol 24, No 2

There are no official scenarios set in October 1940, October 1945, or even October 1950. Somebody really should get around to fixing this. A few can be found in October 1944 though, and I present them below:

Code:
U39 The Clearing German American 1.3 48.00% 52.00% Rivers to the Reich 10/10/1944
S26 Last Ally, Last Victory Soviet German 9.3 63.64% 36.36% Starter Kit #3 10/10/1944
N Soldiers of Destruction Soviet German 3.8 20.18% 79.82% The General Vol 25, No 6 10/10/1944 Recommend Soviet balance

You need to check out BFPs Onslaught to Orsha
This is one of the things I love about ASL. I can pick nearly any topic in military history between 1937 and 1945 and someone, somewhere, has released a scenario pack about it.

Uncle Duke,

Hello from Southern California! Are you overseeing a tourney based on this action? Perhaps you could email me anything you feel I should know? My email address is: HammondOCSports@Gmail.com

All the best,
Robert Hammond

Welcome to GameSquad, Robert!

Sadly, no. I am not overseeing a tournament based on Bagration or any other action right now. Maybe some day. These posts are a continuation of a series of themed scenario lists I started putting together about 15 months ago for the Twin Cities ASL monthly get together. If you dig through the archives, you'll find lists going back to June, 2019. Feel free to use them as you see fit.

Cheers,

@Uncle_Duke
